Bought Ray F's 3 Ltr
As said my other half is now the proud owner of a red 3 Ltr, I went up by train last Saturday and drove it back Sunday after having much chin wagging with Ray, only problem was the EML came on around Dartford crossing, once or twice it went down on power but on the whole ran well, spoke to Ray about it and concluded it was a fuel issue rather than the pump, from memory it had a 77 code, anyway too busy to look at it in the week but had a stab at it today.
So stuck it on the hoist to give it a once over and concluded it needs what I have done with the last two motors, that is a good grit blast and then a good coat of Shultz, the removal of the front ARB as it will not last long daily up and down our track other than that it is fine. Now the fuel, removed the filter, and got some shit out the bottom so cut it in half, my god it was bad, now I remember Ray saying the filter was not very old, so fitted the new one and swapped the see through hose onto the outlet to the injector pump, then before connecting said pipe used my large syringe to suck the fuel up from the tank, and was not happy with the look of it, in the see through hose it looked normal but my clear syringe is 75 mm diameter and the fuel had a deep grey hue to it, as it was below quarter tank put 50 ltrs in it, Runs a treat and no EML so looking good but do have some very small air bubbles visible and if I use the primer pump when running I see lots of air, so in a couple of weeks when the tank has seen nothing but good fuel I will be fitting another filter and a new housing. When I left Ray I had about a quarter tank so did 30 or 40 miles then fueled up, so this was bad fuel without a doubt, fortunately the filter captured it all, Rick
