1.5 inches of rain
Hi all had a very hard day today, last night and early this am we recorded 1.5 inches of rain, which has caused a lot of not so much damage but hassle, I have video but cannot put it up as running out of monthly gb, but for those of you that know my yard, (lots) let me say that it was streaming over my gate and the one foot board that runs along the bottom (10 ft wide) and then down the track running around 4 inches deep, it has done a wonderful job of washing all the mud a silt which comes down on a normal basis and now have bright exposed hard core and spotted tarmac, down side is my workshop was flooded to about 2 ft, covered my mig that was on the floor completely, remains to be seen if it is recoverable, it is not the water that is the problem but the silt that comes with it, when the water drained at about 2 pm I was left with one to 2 inches of silt on the workshop floor fortunately I had the help of two friends who worked tirelessly till 5 pm helping me clear it, the barn was also flooded but only to around 4 inches but it still has a layer of silt and as this is 45 ft by 25 ft and full mainly of stuff on the floor, it will take a lot longer to sort, the cause of all this is two fold, first the culvert under the farmers road has collapsed resulting in the stream flowing over his road and toward my gate which I had taken the precaution of fitting a 1ft board along the bottom to redirect the water back into the stream but today's deluge defeated that and it came over the top, second I have discovered a pinch point on the stream that would have redirected the water toward my workshop and barn any way, so I have some work to do to make sure this does not happen again, good news is the house was 4 foot above it all, I have had a wine or two and am now going to have a scotch or two or three as knackered, Rick
