Not sure exactly how relevant this is but,... from the difflock forum re LR 300Tdi which uses same VE type IP:

could alos be a non edc, 3 wire version.
Land rover used this on later 300tdi to stop them being so simple to steal. when my imobiliser messed up, i removed the black box with the 3 wires going into it with a chisel. behind all that is the normal stop solinoid with 1 wire which i ran a ignition live to
