Car insurance. What happens if your spouse dies ?
Well on the theme of getting your house in order...
We have two cars, each individually insured by myself and spouse, we are each named drivers on each other's policy. What happens if one dies, and the survivor needs to or has to drive the other car. Does the policy die also....? Now different insurance companies may have different rules, so do check... Well I just spoke to direct line, renewed the policy and negotiated an even better deal on last year, so I said I had this friend blah blah.... The policy, with named drivers, will still be valid on the original persons policy up until renewal. BUT you have to notify them, so ...They are taken off the policy, and they stop automatic renewal. They realise they are not the first priority, so ASAP when the "Dust" has settled so to speak. Now here is something for you to do ASAP or at renewal, get your spouse added to the list of approved people that are allowed to speak on your behalf, I am also including my daughter and my son on things like house insurance, car insurance, gas, electric, otherwise they have to wait until after probate... Death certificates have to go here and there... so make it easier for those left behind. It only adds 30-40 seconds to the conversation to have them included. They don't even have to be named drivers, or live at the same address. So have a think about it. You can make a difference. Uncle Rustic
