Towing a car

Hi gang, just a quick question I've got a terrano 2.7 and need to pull a non running car up a lane which the first part is a bit steep, I've never used the truck to tow and I'm a bit nervous as the car I need to pull is 1.4 ton. Shall I use the 4x4 and if so high or low. The reason for this is because I need to get this car which is a laguna into my garage around the back of my house but like I said the lane is a bit on the steep side and is mostly Tarmac. Thanks again
