automatic insurance renewal??

Hi all,

I checked my bank statement last night, budget insurance had taken over £270 from my account??
So I rang them, why said I, cos your policy ran out so we renewed it for you she said.

OK sounds reasonable, but the vehicle, my old peugeot van had been off the road and sorned for 8 months.
I did not want it renewed I said it is off the road, OK she said there will be a £30 cancellation fee, you had a letter reminding you she said.

No letter had come,
Moral of the long winded tirade is do NOT pay with a debit card.
I have now to send them my sorn to prove it was taken off the road, I do not plan to let them get away with it, but guess it is a lesson to be learned.

Hopefully this will put the rest of you on your guard.
Have any of you had the same happen and how did you get your money back?
