Chassis number Terrano 1 or 2
Hi all - again. I am a little confused, is there any way of breaking down the chassis number to the vehicle type and date of manufacture.
I know its an r20 but the DVLA and my insurance disagree over the model. It's a mistral 2.7 TD but the DVLA insist it is a Nissan MPV, the insurance comes up with nissan terrano2/mistral 4x4 (if it is a T2 then the registration is incorrect as it is on an M) the import document shows it as Y-r20 spec 07614 I know it is perhaps a small point, but the worry is that if I should have an accident I may be uninsured as the government vehicle database and the insurers databases show different information. |

R20 is Terrano II in this country or as you say Mistral on an inport.
Why is M reg wrong, they go back a lot earlier than that, saw a K yesterday out on the road. |

Just checked and they seem to go back to Feb 93 so that 'K' I saw was a really early one.

terrano 1 or 2
seem to have got lost somewhere, I was of impression that the 2 came out in 96 with round headlights
no complaints about the vehicle, I absolutely love it! The difference between the insurance details and the DVLA could be an issue though |

log book
I have a 1996 mistral
On my logbook it just states that it is an estate but gives no model type as below Make : Nissan Mistral Model : (blank) Variant (blank) Version (blank) Vin no: R204XXXXX 2 AXLE RIGID BODY My Vin plate matches the chassis number but has model Y-R20 on it and again variant and version are blank. Y-R20 is the designation for Terrano II/ Mistral But is it not also a MPV (multi purpose vehicle) Mine was imported in 2003 regards paul |

The Terrano I looks like this. Terrano II Mk1 Terrano II Mk2 Terrano II Mk3 Terrano II Mk4 (as I learnt today) Not a lot in it from the Mk3 though externally. |

That sounds right as as far as I know the Terrano I was only ever badged as Terrano and Pathfinder (in the US).
But with Mk of Terrano II do you have? |

Interesting....My 02 plater has got all the hallmarks of the MkIV, later bumper and grille, and the alloys as per the last photo, but no offset air intake as its the 2.7 TDi.
Also have doors, bumpers, bonnet, front wings and tailgate from the MkIII (all in black) for comparison! |

Where are your electric window switches? Are there in the middle by the handbrake, or on the drivers door panel. Majority of the changes to the Mk4 were internal, although tinted windows, side steps, and the 'protection trim' () on the bottom of the doors were added as standard... and the range reduced to just the SE and SVE models |
