Default works spec raid engine

guys im after some info about an engine that ive aquired before i sell it on. i beleive it is a full works spec nissan rally raid engine, based on the vq engine. it has ported/polished lower inlet and head. carbon airbox, dry sump kit, injector loom, blah blah blah. basically its a bare engine with the airbox and dry sump kit fitted no other ancilleries. the only info i can find is from the legendry google but this aint really much use. i have absolutley no use for this engine and as a fellow vehical enthusiast and active member of other car forums i thought id see what info you guys can throw up before i offer it for sale, i dont want to ebay it as it would probably go to some idiot instead of someone who will appreciate it. i beleive this engine specs are 200kw @ 5000rpm and 360mn @4000 rpm, v6 deisel, quad cam. 4 valve per cylinder. basically the same as the vq engine but works spec internals. possibly pistons/rods/cams. you get the general idea. i no nothing about 4x4's or nissans but dont want to waste oppotunity for some one out there to mis out on what is certainly a very rare bit of kit. this is info ive pulled from rally raid team specs, but dont think it does the engine justice. if its suitable for nissan to rag across hundrds of miles of desert then im sure it will be suitable for an off road fan to punt about the local course and a great talking point at thenext meeting:

how do i identify the engine (engine codes/part numbers blah blah blah)
what vehicals it would fit.
and what is its general worth as a unit.

if i cant sell this as a single unit i may be tempted to sell the bits seperatly after a little research and checking prices. if anyone is willing to take this engine as is with the info ive provided then email me and we'll talk details or if i can figure out ists true value as a whole and in parts then i'll break it.

like i said i dont have any use for this engine and i dont even want it in my garage so someome is going to get a works spec engine at a non works spec price. will it be you.

admin please do not delete this post. it is essentially just an info gathering excersize to establish the units full potential and value prioir to offering it for sale either to club members or privately.

many thanks for looking. and thanks in advance for any info given

gavin

thanks for sorting the pics out fella, and apologies for the quality it was an old camera. as per my email i have removed the plugs and the engine turns freely with each piston moving and pushing air out of the plug holes. i can also hear the cams ticking over the valves in time with the engine. but thats it for my mechanical knowledge. it has the full length roller throttle bodies but i beleive it is air ristricted due to the class it was in, which im sure could easily be removed to unleash the engines full potential. after a little bit of poking around and a chat with a coupple of guys who are into there nissan road cars i beleive this engine is based on the vg/vq series of engines found in performance road cars like the 300 fairlady or the 350z. any search on google will return these cars with a naturally aspirated engine making impressive figures when tuned right, and since this is going to be of what i beleive possible works spec it should contain numerous parts to improve the performance/durability, so even if one part is faulty the potential benefits to someone already running a vg or vq engine would be great or they could easily replace anything not working correctly from easily availible parts. good news is ive also managed to aquire the flight case it was in, although a little bit rotten i will clean it up before putting the engine back in for safe keeping.

Hmm - very tempted but the more research I do the more difficult a project it seems to become, not insurmountable problems just expensive ones.

i was thinking along similar lines. dont get me wrong im sure it cant be that hard to do, if your not afraid of getting stuck in. engine mounts will have to be fab'd obviously, then a gearbox/transferbox sourced. probably from a newer navara. but the engine should be able to run on a 350z ecu and loom. if not im sure it was a pectal unit they run it on.

i was doing a bit of poking about and its practically as a 350z unit, obviously with a few changes for durability and what-knot, but it basically a 350z engine. same bore/stroke v.similar power outputs, but it just makes peak power slightly lower down. i just want it out my way, coz my car dont fit on my garage propper with it in there. well not now i got the flight case for it as well lol. and if i cant sell it on as a whole unit to someone who would appreciate it and make good use of it then i'll have to break it up and ebay the bits. and its to much of a rarity to do that.

Give me a few days - I'm also looking at another competition car and if that doesn't come off then I can probably justify the costs to myself etc.

I was thinking a bespoke management system, Emerald had come to mind cos Pectal and the like are just too expensive. Did think Mega-squirt too but not sure that can handle the variable cam timing. The std set up might be able to cope but not sure. Std is likely to be fly by wire and I'd have thought the throttle bodies would be normal cable operated one (can you tell?. Using aftermarket ECU itself would be expensive as would the map set up but other ancillaries and pickups etc could be sourced from elsewhere than NIssan which would help keep costs down (relative term though).

Would probably require a 350Z engine as a donor for various bits but then it would be shame to start using 2nd hand water pumps and the like on such an engine.

the throttle bodies are definatly cable. i can see the snail where it attatches behind the chain cover. if i remember right the same company had been tuning the mapping since the start tweaking it bit by bit each time the engine evolved, there is a web site somewhere on for the company that done the work. it may be worth an e-mail to them to see if they are willing to sort out a map or provide some advice on how best to set it up. the engine already has sensors in it, cam sensors crank sensors throttle position sensors, lots of different one's. even an injector wiring loom but the injector rail is missing. with the right ecu/loom and gear box (i dont see why the the standard ecu/loom wouldnt do it), its practically a drop in engine less the obvious freshen up and a few parts that could probably be sourced from a breakers, and once the air restrictors are removed it would be a strengthened full power 350z motor.

god i wanna keep it now and squeeze it under the bonnet of my vw golf lol
