Thumbs up The Power of Private Consultation !!

A few weeks ago (18 days) we paid for a Private Consultation with one of the best Heart Specialists in Derby one Julia Barron for a second opinion following no treatment / inaction since June 2018 by my NHS Cardiology Team.

A copy of our consultation advice was sent to my GP and the NHS Heart Consultant with a precis of my condition with an outline of best way forward. This has prompted the NHS Cardiology Department into action after months of nothingness following a Cardiac episode in July 2019 when I was in hospital for a couple of days.

Although my next NHS Heart Scan is not until the 28th December 2019 today I received my appointment for the Catheter Suite with a view to further Stenting that was identified when I was in hospital in July 2019 but not acted upon.

As well as some medication changes it seems that the NHS Cardiology Team have suddenly become a bit more proactive now that they know someone is looking over their shoulder .

Certainly that's how things look from our end of the telescope !!

Question Mystery Appointment with NHS in the morning.

I have an appointment in the morning (Mon 20th Jan) for further Stenting/Angioplasty but no one has told me why now?

I had a letter on the 16th December 2019 giving me the above appointment the mystery is my recent MRI Heart Scan was on the 28th December 2019 so they could not have known the result beforehand.

I contacted the Cardiologists Secretary last week for the reason and was sent a copy letter of a letter sent to my GP but this turned out to be a precis of my last NHS consultation on the 3rd December 2019 with the Registrar - no mention of more stenting.

I've had 8 previous Angiogram / Angioplasty procedures since 2007 so it does not worry me but have always been told why beforehand so its a bit odd. I am going to have to ask when I get to the Hospital at 8.00 am for an explanation. As the waiting time is usually 3 months in the Catheter Department I don't want to cancel it.

Had a good chat with the NHS consultant about what they were going to do & why. He admitted to not having looked at the heart scan results from the 28th December 2019 so went back to his office to look. Came back & basically said they added nothing new to the picture so they proceeded with my consent.

Had issues getting into the main artery in my right arm due to previous scar tissue so they did the left. Trouble is the Catheter Suite is not designed for use for right arm only what with the various braces and the X-Ray stuff. He had to lean over me to do his stuff - that hurts his back as he needs to be so accurate with the procedure. An 1hr & 20 mins and I was back on the day ward. Then I had an arterial bleed as they did not put a pressure strap on the right arm - another delay so was not discharged until 7.00 pm (8.00 am start).

I seem to be bruised everywhere but tbh I do feel as thought the stenting has helped. Early days yet but looking good. This morning back for Heart Failure Clinic follow up then different hospital this afternoon for Plastic Surgeon appointment. God bless the NHS the team of nurses on the ward were brilliant.
