Maverick seems slow?
Just bought a Maverick 2.7TD and it appears to be rather low geared, slow acceleration and revs its nuts out to do 75mph, is this normal?

Hi, its all according to what you are used to driving/ comparing it to?
mavs and T2s are low geared, they were never built for speed, having said that should easily do well over 75. do yourself a big favour, join this club. all the help and advice you will ever need is here, and friendly lot too. Wayne |

If you have a satnav or other GPS, see what your actual road speed is. The speedometer in my T2 is wildly optimistic and shows 70mph at a true 62mph.
However, even though i have a TDi SWB and not a TD LWB, but even as standard it would hit 100mph on the clock reasonably happily (about 3800rpm, 90mph true speed) Something about yours doesnt seem quite right... Tim |

wouldnt say so, perhaps need a tune up.
my tdi is usually pretty peppy. gearing wise, wide ratios, each gear has its own speed range might sound obvious but built more like a truck than a car. whilst motor torquey isnt as forgiving as a modern car if speed drops in a higher gear, may feel like labouring, drop a cog or 2 and some throttle get turbo spinning and you're off again. think at about 3k in fifth doing indicated 75. some say could do with 6th gear, but then might to too high to use towing or uphill etc. sometimes if off turbo in first bit slow on take off, worse with van on and going say uphill round a corner. then feels like could use a crawler ratio. clearly 4wd lo not an option on high grip surface. be known to slip clutch to help it get off.

yep, clothahump join up. we are all helpfull. some even know what they are talking about.. not me though, im here just for fun and the banta..
rbrt, i had the caravan fully loaded behind a lorroy on a hill. he had to stop!! I couldnt move at all. so did drop to 4WD Low.. tp get going again.. but wasnt to happy about it. MAF was to blame.. but i wasn't a member then.. so didnt know i even had one. all well now tough. had to stop on that hill with the caravan since.. no trouble with at all even in 2WB go on you know you want to join us fun loveing lot.. A dying MAF, or even a slightly ill MAF really knackers power with the TDi.
It must reach a full 4.5v at anything over 2000rpm otherwise you will be short of alot of power. Even 4.3v will have a marked downward effect. If you have a boost gauge you can easily spot the lack of output from the maf. I have found cleaning the sensing wires with a little squirt of carb cleaner every oil change (5k) really helps. tim// |

Hi clothahump nice to see you've made it over m8 I would remove the banjo bolt from the fuel pump & have a look to see if yours has a mini filter fitted (you might have to fish around in the hole to find it)

just wondering, what size wheels and tyres are you running, as you know they can effect gearing, just a thought.

Sounds like it might be a case of buying another Discovery then, I need something that will Tow well and actually accelerate well, from the tone here the Maverick is not the truck for doing any work.
