Default 3 ltr Terrano Diesels - Jap imports???

Hi to everybody and a very Happy and prosperous 2009 to you all.

Can anyone tell me if 2003 and later 3 ltr Terrano Diesels, manual or particularly autos, are all Japanese imports to the U.K. or were they manufactured and specified for the U.K. and Europe market? I'm seeing a few on ebay/auto trader at reasonable prices but I'm not sure if they're all U.K. sourced.

I'm thinking of buying one and importing it to France but the French are particularly difficult if the car hasn't got the E.U. safety 'Kite' marks on the glass, lights, seat belts and other safety equipment. Any in-depth technical knowledge would be appreciated.

Regards, CL.

All Terranos are UK (or EU) cars as in Japan it was called the Mistral - never heard of a 3.0L Mistral now I come to think about it.

As a rule of thumb ... if it's got the little mirror on the nearside wing, about 4 inches or so behind the nearside headlight, it's a jap import, as the European models didnt have this mirror fitted.

you may find parallel rather thangrey imports towards end of t2's run.

these are are euro spec built for greek market and brought in by non
franchised dealers to undercut last of t2s and start of pathfinders.

they are identical spec and markings wise though think at time corrosion
warranty was less as guess not undersealed to same degree as from
warmer climate.

the 3.0s you have seen, got any links, ebay etc ?

Hi Guys

Thanks for the come backs.

Re the mirror forward on the left wing, you're right this is a particular Jap feature but it is frequently removed and sprayed over to hide the imported identity. I've seen lots of 'Shogun'/'Pajeros' masquerading as UK spec minus the formerly fitted mirror but without the necessary 'Kite' marks. I've also seen one on an apparent T2 import.

Here's a few ebay links to some attractive 3ltr T2s :-

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=010

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=011

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=015

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MEWA:IT&ih=012

I hope the links work and if anyone spots an import posing as a U.K. spec I'd appreciate knowing what you see that I've missed!

Happy hogmanay to all, CL

Hello Mate,

I'm new to Nissan, having previously run Discoverys, ,but as far as I'm aware, all of the trucks in your Eblag links look to be UK cars. The last of the T2s were 3lt diesels.

I'm sure some of the more knowlegeable members will give you their advise.

Lee.

P.S. Just to be nosey Mate, have you moved to France perminently? We go to a village near Carhaix every year if we can, with a view to possibly moving to France some time in the future. Prefer their more family orientated, laid back way of life ! Did you find the experience a positive one ?

Lee.

According to Wiki they japs never got the Mk3 version so there will definitely be no 3.0L mistrals.

yep id agree they are all uk models.

good point about the de japping of greys,
seen several with the bonus mirror, and most
recently a decluttered misty, that apart from
rear plate holder looked uk, unless was as per
trs' previous motor.

not seen any mk3s come to think about and only
a couple of mk2s, mostly of which were swb
on the bay.

Many thanks to all who posted replies, particularly rbrt and 'Trano'. It seems that the late 3ltr T2s I've been researching are not Jap imports, so will probably be OK to bring to France. Thanks for all the support.

Lee3197, yes we live permanently in the south of France, 150 km north of Toulouse and absolutely love it!! Would recommend it to anyone who, like us, are maybe a little disillusioned with the U.K. and want a calmer less stressful laid back lifestyle. Don't get me wrong, we're still Brits at heart but we're sad about what we've seen happening to our homeland. If you, and anyone else, want more info please PM me and I'll be happy to answer any queries. Who knows we might even start an ex-pats thread, if there's any interest?

Kind regards and a happy new year to all. CL.
