broke the motor today - Page 2

Well finally sorted it today, just shows how checking things while a little stressed (panicking that motor will not be running for depart tomorrow), not having good light and skipping tests can lead you up the wrong path, in the end it was simply a bad "meter" fuse, I;pulled all the fuses and visually checked them on the Thursday evening and all looked good, tried various other things but gave up, had a quick go on Friday morning even to the point of taking a wire from the + battery terminal and touched each fuse in turn with the ignition on, knowing all the fuses were good

only touched one end of each, had I done both ends of each fuse I would have found it but pressure was on to sort it quickly or change motors but was unsure about that as reg was registered at Enfield, anyway as it turned out that was not a problem, I still do not know how the fuse became bad, I can only assume it suffered stress crack, but why at just the time I connected 12s plug on caravan? the battery feed was not even connected, and the fuse looked perfect but when tested it was open, thank you to Ray for steering me in the right direction re the "meter" fuse as I was convinced it was something deeper, Rick

I effd up and have to admit it, but in my defense, I no longer work well under pressure, a few years ago I reveled in it, but now I need time to think, as well as the fact the eyes do not work as well as they used to, Rick

I had a bad fuse that seemed ok in my caravan, it was on the 12s circuit, for the reverse light, it took me a while to pin point it. Could be something to look into

Got to work tomorrow but will be hooking van up again on Thursday, with van wiring as was so will see then, if reverse light is shorted then could that take out instrument fuse? seems odd to me, I think I will probably put it down to coincidence, Rick

Usually I'd say no but I've just remembered my dad had a problem with reverse light when he owned the truck. When he put it in reverse the instrument panel fuse blew, and I presume the reverse light fuse too, I can't remember what he did with it in the end, I think he may just have put a bigger fuse in

I might have to check that

Interesting as on my motor it has a 10 amp fuse and on cover says 10 amp, but on Mrs motor a few months later than mine and with ABS, she has a 15 amp fuse as original (still has the white paint marks on it) although the cover says 10 amp, will come back with what I find on Thursday, Rick

Could the problem be with the switch in the socket that turns off the rear fog light?

Rick, did you check to see where they picked up the power for the 12S socket stuff? I have seen it picked up from some very bad places by so called professional tow bar fitters, including the fuel pump feed on one car, and the petrol tank level feed on another.

No the rear Fogs work and are wired on the 12n plug, Rick
