Default Another Big Bill

So I thought about getting rid of the truck the other week because of big repair bills.
So here goes, we decided to keep it and start getting work done ready for MOT, the bloke has had it for a few days as much because it was easier for us that way.
Work so far
Replaced rear wheel bearing and axle seal
Replaced one rear handbrake cable
Replaced diff oil
Replaced gear box oil
Brake shoe fitting kit
Front arb link
Adjusted up the rear brakes
£375
Just noticed he hasn't charged us for the rear wheel bearing kit, if it had been any other garage I would of not said anything but I simply can't with this guy

Tomorrow its going back for a cv boot and a ball joint

Then for the mot in July it's going to need the front cross member replacing.

Feeling rather peeved with myself now, wish I had bitten the bullet and started looking for another car.

That is really not bad at all Jim, running repairs and general maintenance I call that, if you sell it? unless you buy a much later model you could well end up spending a lot more plus the hassle of a vehicle change, Rick

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.

That's great value indeed! Please believe me, that's only 2.7 hours labour or there abouts at my garage, forget about parts

Sounds like a great chap, defo worth being honest with him, you can trust him and he can trust you too.

From a service point of view I have several customers I know I can trust and be honest with in terms of repairs and future work talk ect.

oops..

But as a bill, that's too drastic considering the amount of work done and the particular type of work, but yeah, when you consider the amount of money for a car you may get rid of shortly its a bit demoralising.

I vote make your decision this time/MOT and go with that.

Thing is Jim she's an old girl but has served you as a family very well over the years now TBH a much newer motor could have cost you that or more for less work to be done as a wheel bearing can be £150 or more

It will be worth it when its done mate
It seems harsh on the wallet when it all comes at once though! You have had it a long time and once you have these jobs sorted it will serve you well

Well after we've just paid so much we are going to carry on and get it MOTd in July assuming loads more doesn't go wrong in the mean time.
I reckon after tomorrow's bill we'll be up to the £500 and then the cost of replacing the cross member it's going to be another expensive year with that car. On the brightside apparently the ABS didn't kick in on the way home so fingers crossed that's fixed.

Forgot to say already text "Rick" about the wheel bearing, yes that's his name.

I vote keep the Terrano and keep on top of routine maintenance, any vehicle is gonna need work for mot.

Some new car electronics outside warranty period can be catastrophic

Rik is not the best at the paperwork and remembering things but good with the spanners
The front cross member is not that big a job can't see it been that expensive. The chap that did the sills might be a good one for that job??

Ricks giving me a price for the cross member, be easier than trecking down to Barnsley to the other bloke.
That said if i had the metal and the plums I could have a go with my little mig. Not really got the confidence to do it myself.
