This thread started as a question about lifting, 3 ways to go bigger wheels body lift or suspension lift.
Body lift this is only really done to give clearance to wheels and better approach angles can make car look strange as bumpers fitted to chasis.
Suspension lift gives a bit more clearance under gearbox etc and sills as does lift most of the car up but diffs stay low. problem is can put strain on drive shaft joints especialy if not a beam axle.
bigger wheels best lift going everthing gos higher so better ground clearance all round which is why other 2 lift types are mainly to accommodate bigger wheels. Problem with bigger wheels is also taller gearing on my Isuzu Trooper the bigger wheels made it hard work on the road as it slowed down at the slightest hill, can change diffs or transfer box ratios but costly.
Every time I have got stuck greenlining and needed towing out it is because the vehicle has been sat on its bottom ie the ruts where deep and diffs and gearbox meet the ground.
My Patrol as standared has 265/70/16 which is quite big but I would like either 285/75/16 or best of all 285/75/17 which would lift car quite a bit suspension wise I plan a 2" maybe 3" lift and then it will do most green lanes.
For green laning with ifs I would never lift suspension or body more than 2" as over that it would seem to be more for vanity than practicality.

Try and take a Patrol for test drive not much to speak about on the road but off road it just gos where you point it and brings massive smiles every time even the lowly 3.0

Kind regards

Russell.
