I'm glad you mention as for the last 5 hours that's all ive been thinking of.
Now theoretically any engine can be put into any car. Has anyone got dimensions of a y60 bonnet area? If this is remotely doable I will be saving for it. I love my terrano to bits it's an amazing vehicle, had I known the 4.2 was gear driven ne runs on veg I must admit I prob would have got that, although I did not know about veg at the time. How difficult would the transplant be? Engine, ecu, loom is a must, what about drive? |

ECU's not on a 4.2D that I'm aware of you need to connect the Startermotor, fuel soleniod and feed and return fuel pipes. Oh and the waterpipes. Oh and throttle cable think thats it

my morris minor had a marina 1300 TC engine bolted straight onto the 850 box. Fitted a Essex 3.0l v6 and ford auto box to a Mk1 nissan bluebird auto My Mini traveller got a fibreglass front end and an MG1300cc engine onto the 1000cc box every thing is possible... it's the ammount of time effort and money that is involved that is the problem |

You could fit a Troll engine to a terrano...... then upgrade the Terrano body and chassis to a Troll body and chassis... Then You have what you secretly want......

Do you suspect it is a massive job to carry out an engine transplant? Bit of a grey area I can imagine |

Alex mate, the enthusiasm is great but lets just think sensibly, for once ...
First, power to weight ratio isn't gonna be spectacular. BHP of the 4.2 turbo is less than the 3.0TDi - which is already available in the Terrano. The 4.2's characteristic, the one that would make me swap my 3.0TDi for a 4.2 non turbo in an instant, is its reputation for having massive amounts of low down torque, from what I've heard, enough to tow a big fully loaded twin axle trailer up a hill at idle, along with the weight of the troll Second, the Trol bonnet is BIG. Both the Y60 and Y61 Trol bonnets were designed to fit a 6cyl engine (4.2 & 2.8 are both 6 pot). Look at this pic from the Wales weekend, you can see the difference in bonnet length between Fez's Mav and my Trol (at least I can ). The 3.0 is a 4cyl so there is space in the engine bay that they (partly) fill with a longer fan shroud. Third, as Patrolman said, think about the time, effort and money to make the engine/gearbox etc fit together. I know the 4.2 can slot straight into a 3.0 Trol but that's purely because they just moved a couple of engine mounts to fit the 3.0. You have to do a bit more if fitting the 4.2 into a 2.8 Trol. If you really want a 4.2 diesel, just buy a Trol for crying out loud and get the cracking engine AND the front live axle |
