Patrol Y60 LWB Buying Tips?
I may go to see a 1997 Y60 2.8TD that looks nice and seems to be the right price.
I know some of the rot spots but can't find much info on the engine and drive train, so as always I'm all ears. Cheers, Ian |

Check the locker works, swivel hub condition, front wheel/steering woble
Rust on arches ( usually superficial ), rear most part of chassis. Seat belt mounts and rear seat operation. Give it a good thrash and check all gauges and smoke Electric windows, slooooooow, Enjoy |

Seriously, I'm guessing some kind of joint near to front hub that allows the front wheels to steer? Should they be greasy looking and not rusted/pitted? Any tips on how to check the diff lock? Are the motors generally considered reliable (obviously not in the league of the 2.7), but good for some high miles? This one's done 125k. |

Some b*****d broke my aeriel off parked at garage, not happy!
There is a known fault on these on the earlier ones certainly, dependant on mileage, cylinder head/head gasket, the 5th and 6th pistons suffered from lack of oil and getting hot due to poor oil circulation, think they got over that but not sure.I've had mine for 7/8 years ,in process of changing bottom engine as this happened to mine resulting in 5th big end going.Mine's a 1992 model and had done 350 000km,love the car much to my wifes chagrin! |

Thanks for all the replies but I got a little scared of the Patrol and for once let my head rule my heart and went to see a Terrano first.
If all goes to plan I pick it up later this afternoon... Ian |

If you don't plan to do any heavy offroading a terrano would be more suited.
