Is there a prize for the lowest miles?
35,358 on a Dec 2004 reg. In the 2 years (march 9th) I've owned it I've only managed 7300 total though this would normally have been 9-10K. It's had 2 owners before me & the first 1 only did 300 miles in each of the last 3 years he owned it & 16,000 total in 6 years. The tyres have still got 4 to 5 mm on them & they are the originals! Think I'll retire (there's a pun in there somewhere) them on their 10th birthday. At this rate I'll be 80+ before it gets nicely run-in @ 100K LOL.

Did once own a 1973 HC Viva for 25 years, 8K bought @ 2years old & I then covered another 141K. 161K & still reliably running was a lot in those days. Also did 160K from new in a 1968 Hillman Imp in 14 years. Can't see todays cars lasting as well.

The T2, is on 110K, , we have done 20K, in just under 2 years.

Did 242,000 in my Suzuki Vitara LWB in 3 years from new.
250,000 in my Volvo850, but it did have 80K on the clock when I got it as a second car for towing the caravan, I did the 170K in 5 years.
Took my V70 up to 265K, from 18K, in 6 years.

so most of our mileages seem to be between 100 - 150k generally

with the exception of course.

I spoke to a couple black cab drivers for engine information on these,
two of em has seen over 500k

one dude was over 500k (had a gearbox replaced at 360k)

And one cabby reported over 1 mil miles on a 2.7 engine

Even if the rot does bite badly you then buy a navara or pathfinder with a blown engine (loads around) & drop your 2.7 in

Just wondering how you managed this mileage in Vitara in 3 years? And where did you go with the Volvo with the van? Just been away to Bridlington with our van, had 4 great days away even in this weather

With the Vitara, it was my company car... I was their senior engineer, and covered the whole country, plus a couple of trips to the south of France with the Caravan on the back. That really was a fantastic car, and very capable off road as well, for a full road going motor, with just rock sliders, and AT's.

I had a Diesel Grand Vitara, after that, and did 90K, in the year, but then I left the company.

At the new company, I had the worst car I have ever owned, a brand new Subaru Impreza Sport Estate, and was not allowed to put a towbar on it, so I got the 850, and that did all my "nice" driving in it, in comfort, and minus rattles, along with using it for the company mileage all the times the Subaru was in being repaired/recalled/serviced. Because of the ferrets, we only holiday in the UK, as they come with us, so the mileage was driving all over the UK.

When I left that company, the next company I went too, we could use our own car, and claim mileage, so when the 850 came to the point of it's life that it was starting to cost money, I went for the V70, that also towed the caravan all over the UK.

We went away for Christmas and New Year in the caravan, this year to Pembrokeshire, last year to Anglesey, and before that, to the Lake District, most years.

That's good going in a vitara mate, I've had a Suzuki sj for off roaring and loved it, I keep looking for another one that has the 1.7 diesel in as I found the 1.3 petrol poor but it had done 130000
Moved on to my fourtraks then and loved them too. Wish I still had both
Love the t2 though its a keeper, tows the van a dream (sterling Europe 520)
Might be tempted with a pathfinder

I have had a 3 fun SJ's, only one was road legal, the others, off road only.. The 410's struggled a bit, with nice sized wheels, and good tread, stalling, rather than spinning, but that was not always a bad thing, as they always put the traction down, the 413, was much better, but it had only done about 50K, and was in great condition.

Our old caravan, the one I am breaking, as someone drove up the back of it, was a 1996 Sterling Europa 500L Classic... Great van, we loved it... we now have an Adria.

I want a twin axle next , Twin fixed bunks for the kids just be nice to have that extra room, the Dalmatian (fydo) gets in the way!! Mine is a 1999 and is in great nick for its age, just had a service and it had no damp or issues
The kids are 2 & 4 and cause mess constantly so ill be sticking with it for a bit yet, does the job and not afraid to use it.
The prices of newer vans now is frightening
