I am under the impression that although a motor is taxed and tested, and that although my insurance allows me to drive a motor not owned by me, that for that to be valid the other vehicle has to be insured, am I right, the way I see it if it has no insurance on it then Mr plod will flag that up on ANPR and pull me over, just thinking that if I am wrong I can train up to collect this motor and drive it back on my insurance, Rick

yep, if car is not insured it will flag up. from most policies i have held you are only covered 3rd party only too even if you have a fully comp policy, tho this would obviously be subject to individual policy.

Ask the guy you're buying from not to cancel his policy till you get home.
Then yes you can drive it on your policy .
OR spend £25 of so on a 24hour temp cover thingy. Plenty about online

If you have the details of the vehicle you can get 24hour cover by some companys i did it for a vito van it cost 24 quid

Speaking from experience, ask the insurance company. Don't take the risk.

Usually it must be insured for you to use your insurance.

Ask the comp, and if you have a smartphone record the phone call.

I record all my calls, i will show you Sunday (its a free app)

Before you spend that check with your insurance. If you ring the free "new customers" line then get transferred. Also you are less likely to go through to India call Center

There's loads online and it's up to your patience as to how good a deal you get. Once you've got an acceptable quote make sure you don't tick any of the extra cover options. They're all tosh
Top tip, print out the policy and take it with you. The police data base won't have it on their system

Thank's guy's, it is about what I thought, next problem, is if I train up I cannot take much in the way of tools and I do not think I fancy driving a completely unknown motor a couple of hundred miles without a fair tool kit, so I will be trailering it home, just me, but on checking my own policy, I still have breakdown cover inc recovery home so all good to collect it on the trailer, Rick

And with a trailer, as long as no wheels of the towed vehicle touch the Tarmac it does not have to have insurance

Looking at the state of the trains down your way, training up may not be an option anyway, there has been 2 landslides down your way, and tomorrow they are also winding everything down early because of the storm (Any excuse for SouthEastern)... A few weeks back, when they wound everything down early, thay just did not run the trains at all, and it took Suz 4 hours to get from Sevenoaks to East Croydon... and I had to pick her up from Orpington to come home, as they were not running any further south.

Trailer is probably best... Where are you picking it up from Rick?
