Honda HR-V

chaps, don't shoot me...I just want to know, has anyone ever owned or driven an HR-V? its on my list of potentials, and although I fully understand the 4WD system in it, for me it would be fine.

It'll get you through the snow Clive, a friend of mine has one and he likes it.

It's only got one gear lever, the ladies like them.

I'd venture onto forest tracks at the most with one, they are a road going 4x4.

Very reliable too, apparently.

The CRV are also a good road biased 4x4 that do galactic miles.

Cheers chaps. Yeah, I know its not a proper 4x4, but ts just another viable addition to my list of new cars to buy! Seems to get glowing reviews, no listed major common faults on the manual and fairly cheap. Seen some videos, and definately capable in the snow on he roads, which for me is all I need.

Well, I'll keep saving money and looking, terrano still top of my list, the one I want is £1850, but I'm £1k short of that lol!

Being a Honda, you should be able to just drive and drive and drive and keep driving, very reliable. Don't know what there like off road, but 4X4 should get you out of places a 2 wheel drive won't.

cheers! I used to have an old J reg Prelude. I ADORED that car. It was near enough MINT and as I recall, I never had an issue with it other than some weird fuel pump niggle that meant after stopping and turning off the ignition, you had to wait literally 2 mins before it would restart. But still, it always started, and never broke down or anything.

anyway, the 4wd of the HRV is part time. Seems the 4wd kicks in only when the front wheels slip, and as its a front wheel drive car, makes some sense I suppose. I have seen videos proving its ability in the snow on ROADS, but its definitely no off roader. I have been onto the Honda club, and a chap on there has videos of him driving in simple off road conditions-forest tracks that sort of thing, too much for a car, and it does fine.

So for me, the hR-V will be fine, and as the general running costs are lower than a Terrano, its a viable option. The lack of affordable Terranos right now, is forcing me to look at alternatives, but I have to say, I have always liked the HRv but I always thought they were 2wd ONLY, so my eyes have opened now..!!

Yeah they do/did the CRV and HRV, I know one of them is 2 wheel drive only. At the end of the day Clivvy, how often are you going into serious off roading locations ??. Although I have a Terrano, It's mainly used for towing our caravan and the only time it gets any 4x4 action is when it's snowing or I need to get on/off a slippery pitch with the caravan.

yup, you hit the nail on the head mate. When I originally got my Maverick, I got it for a toy. To go offroad/green laning. Then we got a caravan which was a big mistake, because then I had to ensure the car was always ready to tow-which never happened, and I never took it seriously off road/green laning-just tracks and old roads and the snow.

So yeah, the HR-V as an alternative, will certainly suit my needs, I'd just lose the better agility of the terrano and id never be able to do serious green laning-just basic stuff. So the HR-V is a very good compromise/trade-off, one id be very happy with to be honest.
