Default Nice speedy laptop with Windows 8

highly recommended Toshiba Ultrabook. here is my work Ultrabook I use for IT support, this is the boot up time from cold, with Windows 8

media pc? Windows 7 works as a Media Centre just fine, or are you asking about the hardware?

Hardware. I'm changing my old windows xp PC that was storing and playing 80gb of music and assorted video.
It's accessed upstairs via media streamer into the hifi.
It's now a bit slow and doddery so want a mega fast replacement. It'll just be doing that job basically.

what do reckon to ssd hdd, would speed up boot time too?

prices are falling, thinking might put one in my acer lappy if
hdd fails.

in that case, consider building your own. £250 will buy you a Phenom 6 or 8 core cpu, mainboard, 8-16Gb ram etc, whack it in case and off you go,..

definately.

the laptop in the video is 128Gb SSD.

Installation of Windows 8 took about 20 mins via cd..

Windows 7 can be made to be very quick. Mine at home is only 15 seconds, but my hardware is a bit old. Get an SSD for the boot, cost about i dont know, £90 ish i think, and use that for your OS/Media centre, put the music and video on a fast hard drive with lots of cache ram built in and youll have a very fast pc for little money.

Windows 8 isnt that expensive, as you can see in the video, boot up time is hardly worth blinking at.
