12v to 240v inverter
Hi guys,
so ive got one. BUT wheres the best place to put it.. under the bonnet and run 240 to the back or in the back and run big 12v from the front to the back your thoughts and advice please |

depends a lot on the inverter and its size, if it is a cheap y and draws big amps you have a problem, big amps mean big cables (I have a chart somewhere that makes it easy to size) but say you need to draw 40 amps (= about 500 watts) with the inverter in the boot then you need cables around twice the size of your starter cables, in order not to have voltage loss that makes the inverter work harder, and putting it in the engine bay is just as bad as they need to be kept cool not stuffed in an oven, hope that helps, if you want facts and figures then give me the details of your inverter, I can supply but need to find them (put them in a safe place?) sounds like overkill
why not get a 12v kettle or gas, or one of those 12v liquid heater that sits in a cup. be fun explaining mains wiring to insurance assessor...

i got it for FREE so was thinking of using it! 12v kettles take ages! i dont have a small gas hob.. best way i think is ... pop the bonnet and hook it up. use it then put it back in the bag... simples.. |

soft start 600w 1500w dc to ac power its a great big thing too boils the kettle from the caravan ok.. 1000w one |
