The problem is, because she had a claim, even though it was not her fault, she will be classed as a high risk now! and it rockets up the price.
The down side is that is why she probabaly got hit by an un-insured driver cos he could not afford the insurance either.

You would of found that the Landrover would have gone up as well, even if you had kept it.

Briggie, why dont you spend 10 mins on Confused . com and Compare the Meercat . com and see what you get. Then let us know.
I've got all my mods etc agreed with Adrian Flux, I've got several points and wrote off me truck last year Still much less than half what she's been quoted
Rear tints are a "Security" measure

part of the problem is that the insurance company have not been able to trace the address of the driver who ran into her ...... despite him giving her details ( his mobile number ) at the accident scene ........ he said he wasnt in the country at the time and can prove it ....... doesnt make sense to me , but hey ho thats insurance for you

they tracked the address that the mobile was registered too , and " his brother " answered the door and said he doesnt know where he lives

i had the same problem with my discovery, my wife had a no fault claim and insurance went from £280 to £370, and i also added my son (32yrs) to policy, up again to £450. someone told me about " Graham Sykes " everything declared with son, £228 full comp, protected and they don't need your ncb, although they do hold it for you so you dont lose it.

worth a try,

Well on the upside thats 25% off already.

On the downside, sounds like it will never be a 'no-fault' claim given the circumstances....not clear-cut enough for the insurer to make a judgement.

Are you using lowest likely annual mileage and higher excess....and I am assuming its 3rd party? I mean whats the point of fully comp on a vehicle that costs £1000-1500?

Just got to keep looking but there are plenty more places.

unfortunately , sheilas employer insist on fully comp insurance with class 1 business use on any vehicle she uses for her job

and no they dont contribute towards the expense of it , but she does get a fuel allowance of 38p a mile

Well the answer is right there. Fully comp claimants and class 1 business are two of the higher risk and higher payout ratio brackets for insurers.

As everyones premium go up the higher risk/higher payout combinations will take a harder hit.

As you are transporting goods (not just samples) yours will be higher.

I think youll find they are contributing. Our mileage allowance changed recently and tax kicked in (what a surprise ) so we did a bit of complaining and research.

That 38p is calculated on the basis that it costs x pence per mile for fuel, other consumables, general wear and tear and maintenance and extra insurance to pay for what you wouldnt normally bother having . In this example business use, it only covers the costs in excess of what you would normally pay out to run the car for your personal use.

Where you will further dip out (and i do at work) is it is made on the basis you would be running a car that returns average fuel consumption , average priced tyres etc etc and in tis case fully comp ins as thats what they tell us the majority of vehicles on the road are covered by.

The reason its kept down to 38p would i guess be because over a certain figure ( I think if i recall just over the 50p mark) you get taxed on it. Ridiculous of course because all the tax has already been paid once on the fuel and parts But thats the way it is.

So to to effectively give you a little more in your pocket your missus employer would have to pay out a lot more which I presume would be unsustainable.

Thats why its so important to work out the full running costs of any vehicle you buy before you commit if budgets are strained

hi I was with sureterm but with no changes my insurance went from £328 to £660 on renewal last week and the rason they gave was they nolonger deal with equity red star.

the best i found was Adrian flux £440 inc fully compdriving other vehicles

My partner went through DIAMOND and she was put through to them or the number on my insurance cert is 0844 8885544

you can pay in full - 2/ 3/ 4/ 10 months.

NFU would not quote as i did not have a garage.
AViva wanted £500 but wanted the whole amoiunt in one go
