All sounds good but at the end of the day a bit like intruder alarms, next to useless, we have cattle wire near us and the farmer was not sure if it was working, so I grabbed it for a while and when the pulse I felt did not die, I told him it was OK , he thought I was joking and that it was dead as I had not moved, so he touched the wire gingerly, and jumped three feet into the air, horses for courses, Rick

so your plannig to rob me then?

no the idea is most of the folks from urban areas have never even seen an electric fence so they touch it, get a belt and then leave it alone.

A friend of mine had 'issues' with a garden centre that backed onto a canal, so much troble he could no longer get insured. Same fence system installed and 3 robery free years.

what about the door locks? crap thought so, i'll leave the doors open then

but if each thing is only 10% effective, then having ten different things might do the trick! what do you think?

Agreed, an alarm box is as good a as the complete thing, it stops the opportunist, the best alarm , will not stop the professional, electric fence the same, so easy to overcome, but to the general yobos stops them easy, we are fortunate enough to live in a place that we do not need to lock our doors, we do out of habit, but no need, we have cctv, but it has only been any good for watching the badgers and foxes, Rick

what you need for most bugglers is a visual deterent , and a alarm / notice warning of electric shocks / noises going off etc normally suffices to the brain dead morons that steal

Less determined burglars hate light and noise. More resourceful ones will check out the extent of your light and noise then decide if they can deal with it. A pro will have recce'd your place and will not be deterred.

All depends what level of atttack youre expecting and no measure should be discounted.

Alarms are very good because they put the level worry into many a burgling head and will create noise if activated (see above). Dummy boxes though are easily sussed

Theres always a way around any electronic or mechanical device but it all depends as I said what level of attack youre expecting.

I'm sure theres people on here who have sadly been screwed after an alarm was disabled. But I can personally recall literally dozens, perhaps hundreds where people have been seen fleeing when a secreted security light came on or a patio door under attack set off the alarm.

Not one point above is made up. Its fact and literally straight from the horses mouth

On a personal note I designed out home alarm. I looked at it from the "how would I want to by pass this" view. The trick with alarms is to think outside of the box and know how the burglar looks at your house. eg anti foam sensors are fine in the bell box but thats old hat now, do something like placing the SABI sperate say in a corner of the loft with a 200 decibel whooping siren attached.

Speak to your crime prevention bloke. Our local ones are spot on (have to say that really cos theyre good mates )

my mate trev has a great guard dog called major , its as soft as putty and lets you into the house , lets you stroke him ..... but if you try to leave he will pin you up against the wall

well i have two 'homes' on eis in a remote rural area and the closest neighboiur is half a miel away, very off the beaten track, and everything you put down gets bloody stolen including the electric fence!

You can only do your best, and another big feature of security is 'peace of mind' even if it is a little deluded, you can at least enjoy it while it lasts!

On many occasions yes , on otherd no. I recall one scrote getting his lock pick screwdriver stuck in agarage door and legging it. I also remember finding a broken hacksaw blade..............and blood, in another aborted motorcycle theft. The I'm confident they rate their locks.

On a slight aside, have you ever tried kicking in or shouldering a door like they do on the tele ? More often than not it doesn't work but it furkin hurts lol
