Default Had A Little Trip In The Camper

Had a little trip away in the camper last week to the Outer Hebrides. Unfortunately too far to go in the Mav so slumbed it in the camper. We went up to Lewis and Harris and then on to Skye on the way back. Turned out that the ferry was changed outward bound to sail from Ullapool rather than Uig as we had planned and then whilst we were out there the ferry started operating doing the Uig route and on it’s first sailing had to return to port with an engine room fire so we were transferred onto the Ullapool ferry for the return trip.
Stayed at some amazing places on Lewis and Harris and we did know but Sundays are Sundays and everything shuts down, I actually found that refreshing. We had a flat tyre on the Golden Road on Harris, when I say miles from anywhere it was miles from anywhere on a single track road. Had to make a detour back to Stornoway for a replacement tyre fitting which was gutting as I have four replacements in my shed back at home.
Anyway a few pics of our trip.
Oh and it was an odd feeling driving on my side

Brilliant place to visit Black House Museum, most of these houses are holiday lets with all mod cons like Central Heating and I believe Satellite TV. The one house that is the main museum was really interesting complete with a peat fire.

Final night on Harris was spent on what is supposed to be the best beach but sadly the weather didn’t want us to see it.

Back on the mainland starting our trip home we called off at the Commando Memorial just short of Fort William.

And then our final camp overlooking Loch Tulla near Glencoe, a really peaceful spot before the final leg of the journey home. I can honestly say that the camper has really come into it’s own this last year or so.
Oh yes called in for some diesel at Fort William and at the opposite side of the pump was a LWB Defender with an Allucab roof, first time I have seen one and it looked a nice subtle modification. Now if they made a conversion roof for a Terrano that would be awesome.

Looks like you had a very interesting and enjoyable trip Jim, did you sleep in the camper all the time? Rick

Yes mate in the camper the whole time. It has paid dividends spending a lot of time insulating properly. Fitted one of those chinese diesel heaters so that soon heats van up.

Plus I’m too tight to pay for a hotel

That is the be all and end all if you are warm and toasty, cold and miserable is no way to enjoy yourself, Rick

Looks stunning (as always). Thanks for sharing.

Our last trip to Scotland was in our MG EV. Charging was a slightly (read very) stressful expereince. Top tip for Scotland bound EV travellers, get the ChargePlace Scotland RFID card.

Thanks all, it was a fabulous trip but unfortunately came home with the old Covid.

First time we have visited the Outer Hebrides and hopefully not the last. I’m tempted to visit the Orkneys and even Shetland. For now though probably less far a field trips like Derbyshire and the east coast.
