Default South Cornwall driving routes

Hi,
So its 14 years since we last towed to Cornwall, well just stating at Looe so sure used
the A38 and Tamar bridge route from the M5.

Am sure even in mid 90s we when drove solo to Newquay that some of the A30 over
Dartmoor has been dual'd and maybe when had a day trip from Looe to Nequay in
2014 though more road that way had been improved.

So, looking at taking tin tent to Mevagissey way in summer.

Google mapping suggests A30 just beyond Bodmin, then onto A391 to A390.

So what off the A38 these days, onto A390 just after Liskeard? Have there been
any improvements to the 38 west of the Tamar bridge which I seem to recall being
just a single carriageway almost straight off the bridge.

tia

Wow that is very kind sir.

Just working out some routes.

The cornwall site, a rally opens on 30/7, a Monday so was toying with a night or two
somewhere, know of Exeter racecourse at side of A38 is easy and looked into A38
west of Plymouth and a few sections dualled that weren't last time down there.

Might look at few nights at Bristol on way back as fits in with international hot air
balloon show which visited last summer.

Typical that one of our clubs is running a camp in Rother Valley Country Park, only
stones throw from our house and be nearest ever took 'van, but cant help thinnking
be better spent days getting down SW.

We are off down to Cornwall in may.
Last time I went I was 15 so didn't really pay attention to the roads.
Not planned the route yet,but won't be towing so I will just put the Quickest route in the sat nav and see what it spits out.

I would use A30 which is dual carriage way from Exeter. No fun driving through Mevagissey with a caravan though.

Looking to stay in Pentewan, so before Mevagissey.

Looks like A38 has been improved west of Plymouth, though not fully dualled, Liskeard
is bypassed and another village. Might go in by A38 and home by A30.

Pentewan is quite nice & there are lots of campsites in other surrounding villages as well. As you say A38 & A390 are not bad roads any more few delays during peak times, we tend to use A30 more though.

I agree, you're also more likely to experience slower traffic on the M5 southbound than the A30 nowadays.
