Metro 6r4
Finally got my son interested in 6r4’s, he did amuse me by saying I’m surprised you dont get one. I couldn’t imagine the prices but I reckon they’ll be pots of money.
Anyhoo I’ve seen YouTube videos as late as last year using 6r4’s for hill climbs and other motor sports. Does anyone have any ideas where there will be any racing this year? |

No idea, but that really was the heyday of rallying. Absolutely bonkers with the advent of the Audi Quattro swb, Lancia Integrales, RS200s too.
MkII Escort is still my absolute favourite as they still rally today and as I had a couple of tweeked ones in my youth. |

MG Metro 1.3 Turbo
A few years back (6) when my brother had his 3 litre Omega Estate written off by some nerd who ran into him he bought a Metro Turbo from the local Trade Section of a Car Supermarket for about £500 to tide him over until he found another Estate Car.
I drove it a couple of times and was amazed at what fun it was sadly he had trouble with the engine immobiliser locking him out, after 6 months the head gasket blew so he scrapped it as he is no mechanic. An AWD Metro must be manic, only ever seen one in the flesh it was a road car. |

When group B cars were still able to compeat in the big rallies I used to follow and go to see some of the special stages. Used to love the National Breakdown rally in spring and the culmination rally the Lombard RAC at the start of winter.
My parents got a brand new MG Metro back in 1988, don’t think they really understood even that was a rather special model compared to a standard metro. Felt good as a teenager driving around in one of those. To be honest build quality was pants but it did sound nice with it’s slightly sportier exhaust. There’s one on Autotrader and eBay for about £7,000 at the moment that has only done 17,000 miles. Love a lot of the old cars but for some reason the 6r4 was specials. The thing is it didn’t really share very much with it’s family car it was very very loosely based upon. Think it only shared grill, rear lights and dashboard top . Had this conversation with my son. I know people still use these cars in competition and hill climbs so really fancy going to see them this year. |

Best colours were the blue and white Computer Vision cars. There’s a Rothmans colour schemes up for auction guide price 85 to 95k
Doubt I’ll be getting one |

I used to race at olivers mount , I had a pagett Yamaha 250cc , had my last race there in the late 70s when I crashed into the barrier by the memorial / café bends , ended up halfway down the hillside after bouncing off a few trees .

late 80 had regular maestros and a montego. So always fancied an MG version.
Went to few events where MG Maestro challenge was on. Cars were stripped out and had cages but were Group N so standard power, could shift. the montego was a 2L injected estate so almost MG power. these days follow maestro / montego fb group. might not be 4wd but would have one tomorrow.

Not been to our local rally (the Wyedean) for 2 or 3 years but there was always a few 6R4s running around there.
Seems to be more of those still running then the rest of its group B peers. Probably more 6R4s left than original production metros now. They've all dissolved by now. :-D Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk |
