Sounds like those lads are doing well. Computers have their place but sound mechanical diagnostic abilities and knowledge will stand them in good stead and to my mind make their skills more transferrable.

They've been taking all manner of stuff apart & rebuilding since about four years old.
They used to repair the other kids phones & consoles in secondary school.
Stripping & rebuilding engines since about 10 years old.

To give you an idea....... Brandon took an exam at college that was timed at 2.5 hours. It took him just twelve minutes & he got 100% much to the teachers astonishment.
