Default New Terrano owner. Cheshire

Morning all.

Picked up an 04 LWB Terrano II Sport in Manual with the 3.0 engine.
Bought it for lugging my vintage tractors about.
Very pleased with it thus far, few small jobs want doing but it's a solid car with a good strong engine.
One annoying thing is the Low Range box. It will engage 2WD High & 4WD High but the stick wont go into the Neutral gate or go past it for the low range box.
I took a punt (saw it on the ramp and an independent mechanic said it looked like a seized linkage) as I don't think it's ever been driven in Low Range. It's had 3 lady owners and one chap who kept it for 7 months.
Anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you get around it / rectify it.
Thanks

Welcome from another Cheshire resident.
There's a lot of Terranos in this part of the world, I regularly see 3-4 a day.
Someone will be along shortly to ask for.......

Hi Mate and welcome

Good choice of motor, these things are happiest most when pulling I can imagine the 3.0 is great and there's a lot of happy owners on here that will vouch for them.

I had this exact same problem on my Terrano and it is exactly as you diagnosed a seized linkage, the way we fixed it was to remove the guide plate on the transfer box held on with x2 M8 bolts and sprayed loads of penetrating fluid on it, I was in the car trying to move it into low range while a friend encouraged it with a hammer, eventually it popped in with a clang!!!

We then refitted the guide plate and checked again to see if it worked still and it was perfect

Then you can start to modify it ...welcome along, and take a pic with a tractor in tow, that would be cool

Will put up pictures when I have a full load on in a couple of weeks. Moving them all from storage at my Mums yard to my new place. Got 6 to move 😫

Sorry, no Fergies. I'm an International Harvester man.

Thanks for everyone's help, dropping at my mates on Monday (I'm moving house and have no time for anything) to sort the issues so I've told him about the Low Range fix.

Intend on modifying it for using at the Steam Rallies and camping trips.

Keep you all posted 👍🏻👍🏻

Just a quick note to say that all is well in Terrano world. Bracket in question was removed and a few thou filed off. Now engages with no issues.
Changed the brake pads on the front, rear brake cylinders, front CV joint, re-gassed aircon and a full service and it's as sweet as a nut.

Collecting the tractors on Sunday so pictures to follow

Thanks again

Ah man great news!!!!! Glad it's sorted

Is your air con working well now? That's on my list of "To-Do's" problem is it keeps growing and not really a priority in winter

I'm not sure that air-con is ever a priority in our fair country.
