I went out this morning after roe deer, from a high seat. Very cold, nothing seen, except a few bikers in the distance making strange movements where they should have been biking nicely along.

Didn't think much of it, as it had nothing to do with me. They had no clue I was there in my little treehouse

Now, took the car for a spin this afternoon, in the vague hope of spotting the elusive deer. By accident I happened on the track the bikers were using this morning, and it came clear: they had to get off their bikes in the middle of a mud pool to lift the bike over a fallen tree.
So I decided to use the terrano and my tow strap to move the tree along

No witnesses unfortunately. Would have given us rough shooters a better name.

Plenty of Roe deer on Cannock Chase, which is around us, but we are not allowed to shoot them.

But the local butchers offer local venison though...

We have plenty of old dears but never thought of shooting them before

Well done that man, must visit Belgium again.

Not only are we allowed to shoot them, we are obliged . There's too many of them, bad for our fruit farmers and even worse for the driver meeting them on the highway.

Wild boar starting now in our area as well, even worse for crop damage and traffic incidents.

I always have a chainsaw in the truck, lost count of the number of trees across roads and tracks I have cleared away, both here and when living in UK.
I think it's called `Civic Responsibility`…that's why some guys on here volunteer for Response Teams........

Ahh yes visiting Belgium, probably more a dream for now but loved my visit last year.

It's quite ironic really, they try to get people to slow down crossing the chase, as 400 + animals are killed by motorists each year ...ahhh dear....
Now we have the sympathy vote...

Then three months later, they say they need to cull several hundred as the numbers are getting too high...

Seems there was a system in place to reduce the numbers already...

Mind you, I have seen a few cars written off by these animals, and people have been killed too.
Usually when you see one cross the road, there are usually four or five others to follow.
Since we have lived here a fair few years, we do know where they hide.
Midweek different to weekends, due to dogs and ramblers, and different times of day, ie day break and dusk when they are on the move.
Some people have lived here all their lives and never seen any, but we get to see them when we want. Seeing the stags at close range is a great sight.:thumb
When the ground is snow covered we take the Mav, for a cruise around, and they come within a few feet of the car window.
No one should feed the deer...
Or as others say... No one should be seen feeding the deer...
