Default Drifting

V wet roads today outer london area.

Took the missus niece off-roading to a couple baby lanes and a v boggy field. Nearly got stuck twice, slow n gentle saved us just

Lots,of drifting in the field and back on the road there is a massive sharp u turn on a dual cartridge way, did a proper man drift round the thing

And no before it's asked it wasn't skill it was luck

rear wheel drive will always kick out, its only if it does it at times you would not expect ie low speed you should change the oil. how many capris and grannies kicked the back end out lol , its all good fun if you expect it!

Yeah, ive had good fun over the short amount of years ive been driving, had 3 rwd vehicles. And ive had 9 motorcycles too over about 7.5 years

Whys everyone saying change the diff oil? Not that I wasn't planning to anyway but it had an effect?

Word to the wise.Best not to go off roading alone.Anything can happen.Not just getting stuck,Mechanical issues etc.But Glad you are enjoying your truck.

These trucks have LSD's (limited slip diffs) and a sign that the oil could be breaking down, is the rear end breaking away when going around a bend, but you may have just hit some grease or something.
It's a good idea to change the diff oil though, as I bet it's never been done.
If you do, you MUST use the correct LSD oil.

Yep, A wet roundabout, with a bit of throttle is enough to kick out, great fun when you expect it, Clarkson, eat your heart out..

Make sure it is LSD oil, Comma do one, 2.8 litres on the older cast iron rear diffs, half that for the cheaper later ones made with the thin steel cover plate at the back.

FYI:-
Front diff though has standard diff oil.

EDIT:- forgot the normal tip...
Make sure you can get the filler plug out BEFORE you drain the oil.
The end of a 1/2" wrench does the trick, but start spraying the plugs now, with Plusgas, or WD40

Loved my Capri & the back end was wild but the T2 is tame compared to it but it's very easy to control & get back into line Will be worth changing the rear diff oil anyway as it's often forgotten about

Thanks for all the advise guys, really appreciate it

I have also noticed a judder when dropping into 2nd gear when slowing down, the judder only seems to happen if you ease the clutch up (feels like too low rpm kinda judder)

Doesent always do it, not sure if its a common thing, mabye the diff needs new oil. I will prob tackle both diffs, how much is the oil for front and rear? And can i use decent oil in the front diff?

I'm used to engine braking, ride bikes too, but this is a judder, revs are not low but I could describe the feeling like a learner driver pulling off in too high a gear, you get that cough and dying judder.

There's a roundabout in Belfast that is notoriously slippery, the Terrano is great round it, but the first time I drove a 2.8i round it and gave it a prod, I ended up facing the way I came.

Apparently since ITV4 started showing The Professionals again, Capri prices are heading up!

I don't think Heartbeat has improved Land Rover sales though lol...
Having said that, for the 20 or so miles or so I have seen them on Heartbeat, I have never seen any broken down.

Having said that, on the Professionals, Bodi was replacing the head gasket on a Land Rover with Lino, it lasted a few miles. Same as the modern equivalent then.

Would Lino actually work then ?

Haven't a clue, although those old Pros episodes are so fanciful he'd probably be able to rebuild Concorde with gaffa tape and paperclips.

Who else could leave a 3 litre Capri unlocked in London in the late 70's and it's still there when he gets back?

apparently if i had kept my capri 2.8 special in black it would be worth 10k now
