Sorry mate mine's manual , but the sticker says PUSH , which is what I'd do and see what happens
Best do it without passengers in though incase it's a 007 seat ejector

Yes that's the "Clarkson" button it says POWER and does just that. It will hold the revs longer between changes and so allow better acceleration
Down side is a severe loss of fuel in double quick time

I would guess at your last suggestion, just prevents accidental movement of the selector.???

Has it got an interlock that prevents you moving the selector without your foot on the brake and the igntion on? If so, that red lever is to release it in case the vehicle is immobilised and needs towing etc
