posted here as cant reply to your thread as my membership has lapsed, noisy gearbox in neutral could be the clutch thrust bearing i have the same problem

if you press the clutch does the noise go?

I have same prob, press clutch it goes, mines far too deep tone and loud to be release bearing, its the input shaft bearing I think

mines the same rattles its bag off in neutrel with your foot off the clutch.
press it and its fine how long can you run it like this for? I will eventually change the clutch (well my mate will) and will try and sort the problem then |

Try putting the transfer box in neutral then the gearbox in gear, see if the noise goes when in gears
