Just paid my membership fee. Feels like getting a driver's license. I tried to take a few pictures of the cylinderhead in question, but it is quite well hidden. Don't know if any of you guys can make something of it. It would also help to learn what this disconnected plug is for. Anyone? By the way: Is it still ok to continue with this subject here or should I move it to he tech-thread?

the simplest solution to your " plug problem " is to look within reach of it for a socket it could fit in ......... but then I know nuffin

Can't help you with the Terrano I'm afraid as I'm a Troll man but I know my 3.0TD Troll is definitely less sprightly than my previous (and 9 years older) 2.8TD Shogun

What little of the cylinder head that you can see, looks the same as mine.

Not sure if this helps with your connector...

Not sure what it does, but it looks like the plug you have disconnected should connect to a pair of wires that go to number one injector.

Lazy-Ferret: Thanks for your pics. I tried to put your and mine together to compare. As it seems, the plug I don't know where to put belongs to that socket holder. In my case the countering socket is missing. Does anyone know where it should come from and what it does?

Silly questions, sorry, but there is only one Nissan workshop in Kenya and they have really no idea what they're doing.

By the way: had a great ride yesterday to one of the salt lakes in Kenya called Lake Magadi (here's a google maps link). Shot a picture for you Terrano connaisseurs. Raining season is over, parts of the lake have fallen dry, that's where the road is now.

That is the socket I mentioned above, it has 2 wires that run from it, to the number 1 injector, but I have no idea what it is for, as from what I was told, the injectors are not electrically controlled, so all I can assume is it is a sensor of some sort.

Just looked in the manual, and it is called a "Needle Lift Sensor" and is most likely your issue, as it controls how the pump delivers the fuel... Have a look on page 380 here..

Basically it is a special injector, and I guess more expensive one than the other 3, as it can only be repaired by Bosch, rather then any diesel specialist like the other 3.

Thanks, that helped. I searched a while to find a good picture of an injector with the needle lift sensor, found one, compared it with the loose plug and am pretty sure now, this could be the problem. If the Terrano's engine control needs to know about the status of the injector needle but doesn't, the injection may come at the wrong time and the engine doesn't develop its full power. Of course, if they really put another cylinderhead in this car, the appropriate injector may not fit in, but at least I have a solid theory now.
