Go to a compare site, get a few quotes then go to your current insurer and say you will move if they can't match it like for like.
Saves a lot of paperwork if you are happy with your current supplier. We actually changed once, then found in the small print of the policy that they wouldn't insure the vehicle if it had a twin axle trailer attached, now we have a twin axle boat trailer so, we cancelled it. So watch out for that one. So who has read their small print of their insurance policy then.... best regards, Rustic

We're with Admiral, they work well for us as we have multi car and this makes my sons insurance very cheap

So Jim...
Like me, You have used a few insurance companies over the years. Which one do you rate the best? Which one do you rate the worst? Of course you can only really rate an insurance company when they deal with a claim. Rustic

I was thinking though, what constitutes a mod?.
There are obvious ones, like big bore exhaust, lifted, extra batteries, but what about the less obvious ones, like say, different wheels and tyre combinations, when you look on line, the T2 has had a few versions of wheels and tyre sizes over they years, and it would take a fair bit of research to know what your specific one rolled out the factory on, or even harder, if the person before me fitted a tuning box, or a larger turbo, and lifted the boost, I have never seen another Terrano, so would not necessarily realise that it was not part of the original fitting if it was done neatly. The same goes for the side steps, most seem to have them fitted, so did they come from the factory like that, or is it a Mod, Tinted windows, again most have them, but are they standard, and then in your case, what about your Bull bars and spot lights, were they already fitted at the factory, or by someone who had it before you? Did you specifically mention them, or work on the principle that they were already there, so part of the car. It's such a grey area when you buy a second hand car. My wife was reading the other day that they have changed the law, about what you need to declare for insurance purposes, which was more aimed towards other insurances like travel and medical, but I do wonder if the same rules would now apply to car insurance. http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/new...-reform-begins Basically, if you could prove something was on the car before you purchased it, they could not fail to pay out just because you did not tell them about it. |

A mod from the insurance point of view, is anything permanently attached to the vehicle, not on the original build from the factory. Dealer fit is also a mod.
This can include, but not limited to... Tow bar Decals say with 4x4 on them, not factory fitted Fog lamps, spot lamps. Second battery Bull bar, roof bars added later Alarm system Wider tyres even on the same rims Side steps ... This is before the obvious ones, like body lift, re- chipping, wider wheels, tougher suspension, under body protection, gas conversion ... This list goes on, you can see where this is going. Not declared = reason not to pay out...
