New and having problems already!
Hi all, i have brought a 95 swb mav
had a problem on a friends farm last night where i couldnt get the 4 wheel drive to work, only rwd, so after doing some research i took the auto hubs apart (1 only had a cover on it, nothing inside and the other fell apart) so i went to the scrappy and brought some more. fitted them today and no joy. the front prop spins and the pass side drive shaft spins but not locking in and no drive shaft spinning on the drivers side. apart from that i love the truck, just starting to get a headace and annoyed at the farmer in his disco having to tow me out telling me how great they are ! if anyone can give me some advice it will b much appreciated . Just look at the n/s one next to the drivers side. You'll soon see the missing part. Probably the snap ring

The T2 have a limited slip diff on the back, so basically it will always try to drive both the wheels at the same speed in both 2 and 4 wheel drive.
When you put it in 4 wheel drive there is no centre diff or limited slip on the front diff, so now you will get drive to both rear wheels, and both front wheels as long as they both have grip. But if either front wheel should be able to spin, all the drive goes to the wheel that has the least resistance. So it sounds like one of the hubs is not locking to the shaft, which means as soon as you get stuck and both the rear wheels can spin, all the drive goes to the bad hub, not putting any drive to the front wheels. I have not had to do my hubs on the T2, so don't have any first hand experience but I would definitely start by checking out the service manual, in the downloads section, and making sure the hubs are assembled correctly. |
