Another Newb!

Morning everyone, just wanted to say hello as I've just registered.

I pick up my new (to me) Terrano 3.0di this Friday. She's a 2005 SE, one owner from new, full service history Lwb on a 54 plate.

Never personally owned a 4x4 before so I'm sure I'll be on here quite a lot

Can't wait.

I was initially looking at Discovery 2's but just happened to come across the Terrano at a local garage and instantly loved it. This was followed by a test drive and deposit put down straight away!!!

Anyway, looks like a great site and I've learnt lots already.

What tyres and wheels do you have? Some have 17" with low profiles and are no good for winter grip.

I'd been looking at Discos for quite a while but was struggling to find a decent one anywhere and then took one look at the Terrano and was instantly swayed.

It currently has 235/65/17 good years all round but will be looking at replacing them at some stage so if you have any suggestions then it would be appreciated.

I'm a little bit new to the 4x4 way of life but primarily the Terrano will be used for family and dog duties but will also venture off road for some light duties at some point. It looks a lot of fun and there'll be many a daft question asked by me whilst I'm familiarising myself with at all!

31" overall so should fit if you take off mudflaps and trim arch seam a little

Those are a cracking tyre drive like an at tyre and are spot on in the wet

Also well done on Not buying a Landrover! I had one once and it spent more time being fixed than it did driving. I never got the chance to Mod it cos i got rid.

You will see some posts on here about using cooking oil instead of diesel, that's only for the 2.7 Terrano, i don't think the 3.0 will run on it, so don't try.

As for the 17 inch rims, id bin them off and get some 15 or 16 rims in steel. The reason i say that is there are more tyer choice for the 15s and 16s and the costs is better, and steel wont crack off road. But that just my opinion.

31s should fit with out removing anything, i have a set of 265/75/16 that fit.
(31s mean 31 inch from ground to the top of the tyer, so 265/75/16 and 245/70/17 are all 31s) Although most try to get 33s on and then you have to look at a body and suspension lift of around 4".

The smaller the rim though the more rubber you get on the tyer, so 15" 31s will have a fatter looking tyer than 16" 31s but the overall height will be the same.

Aim to get stuck and be completely self sufficient in extraction, love getting muddy, 2ft deep is good but rare.
