I can recommend tomtom, after using garmin and rac own brand (same map software as tomtom) and currently using an old tomtom xl.
I'm actually looking at getting another XL as mine is getting a bit senile, and if you go through quidco you can get about £5 off Halfords screen price via cash back. |

With a sat nav you can miss a turning or take a wrong exit on roundabout and it will just re-route. I love sat navs |

Says he with no smart phone
For those WITH smart phones, Co-Pilot is indeed sh1t hot. All uk and europe maps, all speed , er I mean "Safety Cameras", live traffic updates and auto reroute to avoid traffic jams 25 quid result. It's too smart for iphones though |

The basic Tom Tom is fine.It is very simple to use and allows you to put in the Post Code without address or vica versa. No frills. It can be updated on your PC so speed cameras etc can be loaded.

No help to you Plank but to anyone using Android devices or those funny fruity phones, there's a free app called Navfree that's actually darn good, 3d view, postcodes, Europe wide and doesn't rely on a data connection in use - yet to test out safety cameras though so maybe the extra £25 for copilot could be worth it!
