Terrano insurance

Well, this year, I hope to take my driving test so I can drive my terrano on roads and not just private land question is, how the feck do I get insurance as I'm soon to be a 17 year old as a t2 ain't what I should be driving. These companies would rather me be driving somthing else e.g a saxo or 106, pah, no thank you

When i passed my test i had a 1970 ford Escort that was falling to bits.
It cost me almost £400 to insure it and this was in 1988. If you do the math, your no worse off that i was back then.

But credit too you though, at least you getting insurance, not like some people that are on the roads.

You could get your dad to insure it as his car and have you as a named driver.

you used to be able to get cover on any car with fully comp insurance but they stopped giving that to under 25's cos they knew they were driving another car.

i cant imagine its gonna be easy getting a decent quote at 17 in a terrano like you say they prefer you in little 1 litre cars even then its mortgage money it may be wise to bite the bullet use a small car to start with just to build up couple yrs no claims first ... good luck shop around but be prepared for high premium at first

My first car was a fiesta xr2 mk2, second was a mk2 golf gti, insurance was £550 and £750 respectively. That was 1997 and I earned £100 per week less tax take home as a trainnee mechanic

beetle was my first motor cost £68 insurance almost fell over at the time but now new drivers would welcome that quote with ease even today 34 yrs driving no convictions accidents or offences my terrano fully comp £600 which is due in next couple month keeps going on the increase . time to shop around this time each yr they just keep saying its inflation i feel im paying for the thousands un insured

Think you'll need a small lottery win . My simpathy to you these are crazy times. 17yr olds statistics don't read good so you will be paying for others wrecklessnes. But don't give up, you may find a company to take you on.
Don't suppose it'll help telling you my first legal car in 1967 cost me £32 fully comp,£50 excess. David.

We have just got insurance for my son on his 1989 Mini city, it started at £4950 and we ended up at £1030..bit of a difference
Like it's already been said here, you need to start with a small engine for a few years or have bloody deep pockets.

Check what "risk" area you are in Ryan, could be you are in a low risk area, thus making quotes lower for you, just a thought...

My 1st car was a '96 escort cost £1200 to insure 1st yr n that was in 2006, n my pug 406 cost me the same last yr, where as my terrano costs 800 this yr!

All of these were 3rd party fire n theft!

It kills but it gotta be done, betta than losing ur license and ur car

Try the Policy Shop for cheap young driver insurance. Just done my sons
He did a year as a learner driver with Collingwood at 880 quid in a MK2 Fiesta 1.1
This year with one years no claims bonus and qualified driver £1200 via the policy shop. He's now into modifying and it's gone up to £1800 but then he's a trainee mechanic too and that puts the premiums up too, bastards...............

The only problem with collingwood is they only insure while they are learners, once they pass their test, the insurance is null

Exactly, that's why I got the boy to do a year as a learner to gain a years NCB and THEN do his test, works out cheaper

make sure you spend loads of time comparing every company you can find, it always pays to. they will bum you because of your age.
my 1.2 nova in 2001 was £1400 to insure, the car cost £325 !

often fully comp can be cheaper.

im 28 insuring my terrano fully comp for £260 a year

if anyone in your familys insurance is due try a multicar policy at somewhere like admiral, aviva ect. or ask if the company they are with do multicar policies, as that is what we have done this year and its worked out alot cheaper for us.

know what your going through though, my daughter had a ford ka last year, 19year old and it cost her £1300, her renewal came in this year, same car and they wanted £1400 with a years no claims

shes now got a 1.6 mk4 golf, and after i shopped around that is £668 fully comp

Yeh girls are cheap Bugs me no end. My daughter was driving a tr7 at 18 and only 400 quid,she's now got a porsche and 360 fully comp. second daughter also under 250 in her triumph 13/60 with spitfire engine, twin carbs full race exhaust , alloys, bucket seats modded suspension.
