my dad has a 2000 model camper van. its a straight diesel 2.5 (i think), not brilliant on fuel 30mpg. its no good in london, iirc its like 100 a day. but i dunno
the newer models with tdi engines are better and faster... but who wants to go to london anyway lol he wont he's like 75 ffs

its a vw itll last forever if you take care of it

Wasn't the caravelle a 4x4 version ?
VW hold their price for sure but still rot like any iron beast
My brothers been converting panel vans to campers (VWs) and they look good till you take a tin opener to them

As an ex vw/Audi tech of 7 yrs, I can confirm if looked after it will be a cracker. If its a late 90's or later with a tdi lump, it will be sound, u need a svc history really and Cambelt due every 60k so if not done get one on it. Gear boxes can be troublesome, but otherwise bomb proof

Caravelle is the minibus/MPV version of the Transporter Makeitfit. T4 is way different to the early, rot-happy rear-engined stuff. Not saying they don't rust though...

As mentioned, gearboxes can be a weakness, but pretty obvious if all's not well. 1.9 non-turbo diesels are best avoided. 2.4 is a five-pot non-turbo diesel. 1.9TD is good, 2.5TDi also good, if a bit more complicated.
