Replacement Tyres
I wasnt sure where to post this so, if it is in the wrong place, sorry.
I currently have BFG ATs on my lwb T2. I've been quite impressed with them and they seem to be wearing very well. Over the past few months, I have been spending quite a bit of time working in some very muddy woods and have found the BFGs to struggle in the mud, mainly due to them clogging I think. I am thinking of replacing them with a more aggressive tread pattern for next winter. What would people recomend. Need to be good on road too as I don't have anywhere to store a spare set of wheels and this is my only vehicle, it does about 1000miles a month on road Cheers |

I would have a look at Cooper ST tyres as they are inbetween AT's & MT's. I think I may be going to get a set when my AT's need replacing prob next year if I don't get another set of rims with MT's beforehand

I've just looked at some coopers in the tyre place and the guy said they were STs and they looked less aggressive than my ATs

I know 4x4 Mag rate them quite highly as they have a set fitted on their T2 van have found a link with a pic of them if it helps :?

Yup, they look like the ones I've just seen at my local tyre place- the guy who owns it has bought them to put on his L200- but he said himeself he doesnt really get them too muddy

One obvious one would be BFG MT's they tend to get good reports from their users but can't speak for them myself.
Khumo KL71's seem to be winning lots of new fans as a good MT with decent road manners, they're cheaper than BFGs too. Cheaper still are the Macho/sahara style patterns available from a fair few remoulders, Sowden Tyres have just taken on a new supplier to replace Colway. I've got the tyres the macho/sahara are a copy of (Yokohama Geolander MT+) and can vouch for their road manners, those that have followed me on the road will be able to confirm that I don't seem to have any difficulty cornering on them and noise levels are very good too. |

The pannard rod is still going well by the way. I looked at the K71s and I was very interested and have read some excellent reports. I dont think the do them in a size that will fit my wheels. I've got standard nissan wheels on AFAIK 235/70/16s and the closests Khumo do is 225/75/16s which as I understand it, I'd need to buy new wheels for them to go on- is that right? |

i run cooper st's on my mav. havent faulted them yet, and thrust me ive put them through a lot!!
my mate runs kl71's, and so does another guy a know of in a highly modded vit. unfortunately their not very impressed with them, however i think in order to get the most of them you need to run them on a low psi low the side lugs can dig in. but as always with running tyres on low pressures, beware not to pop the beads. there are lots of mt's out there. i quite fancy coopers most agressive thread, the stt. bfg's are the most popular. hankook, kumho and goodyear (if you can afford them) make similar thread patterns. if you dont fancy new tyres, there are plenty of remould patterns out them. as hb has already said, machos are popular (mind you they are single directional). i run greenway atacamas (diamond backs), there are awesome at digging holes!! and if you really fancy an agressive thread, have a look at insa turbo special track! |

I'n not convinced by remoulds, last year I ran a set of colway ATs, two had to be replaced by colway after about 100 miles and they only lasted about 10k before I had to replace them. |

if you look in the pub chat forum for a thread about colway tyres theres a blokes phone number who supplies tyres at cost price.he's been in the trade years and seems to know what he's talking about.just to add he doesn't sell colways as they don't exist any more but he sells khumo,insa turbo,technics and can get hold of bf goodridge at a good price.sorry for any confusion should have mentioned it earlier.

colway dont make tyres anymore so dont part with any money until you see the tyres with your own eyes! :roll:

Just following on from my previous post.
Am I right? If I go for K71s, I'm going to have to change my wheels to accomodate the different tyre size? |
