i have met a few people who do radio and

you can talk to people around the world riding different air waves and weather situations, there are 6 million people around the world who enjoy this hobby.
but you rearly speak to the same person twice, if any distance or reliability on weather etc

but... what do you talk about
? and if you spoke to someone in outer mongolia how do you prove it ?

i can see the emergency use, if someone is lost or in trouble they can call for help, if they have a radio, and know how to use it

Very well done Pete, as for those that question the need for licencing on this issue, just look at the number of wireless things we have today, Door bells, intruder alarms, central heating systems, CB, etc, if there was no control, at the end of the day none of these things would work reliably as there would be massive interference from uncontrolled transmitters, I E Joe bloggs driving past your house with a radio chatting to his mate turns your CH on at 2 am Rick

Well done Briggie,

Soon you may well have a go at the full licence and then having got the ticket for the full 400W discover the joys of QRP and try to work the world all over again with a couple of watts.

73 hope to hear you on the air

there are many questions being asked here , perhaps the best advice i can give is to visit the rsgb ( radio society of great britain ) website , as it covers most topics and will point you in the right direction
