blocked heater matrix?? happened to me a few weeks back except mine went to over heat (no heat out of heater though) I changed the thermostat after a good defrosting, added neat coolant and its been mint if not better than ever since.

Stopped after a 100-mile thrash from Llandovery to Leigh Delamere and took the rad cap off with my bare hands and not a sign of any steam! Gauge gets to about 11 o'clock position when doing 90, but at sub-50 its barely off the lower stop and the heater is lukewarm.....going to try blanking the rad at Colins suggestion but thats so bloody 1960s, I can't believe there isn't something wrong....but no idea what?? Viscous fan seems to be running full time as far as I can see, which I wouldn't expect if the rad was only warm as opposed to hot.... |

Yeees, if the stat's stuck open then all the water goes round all the engine, rad and heater. So in silly low temps like now then there's not enough hot in da system to warm the old todger mate
Also explains your ability to remove rad cap with your bare hands oooh I could crush a grape |

two jobs to do now; the moaning noise in 4WD on my truck turns not to be the wife, but a CV joint on its way out...except my chances of getting one delivered from Milners in 2010 look remote

Ooh I do like a screamer LOL!
Well for El Tel's benefit, it was the stat. After freezing my cobs off driving up from civilisation yesterday into the badlands of Oxfordshire, I nipped into the local motor factors and got a stat...then popped to the old mans to borrow a spanner, but would you believe that after 40 years of building aeroplanes all he has is the biggest collection of imperial spanners in the universe and not a 12mm in sight. Ended up at dusk in a blizzard in Halfrauds car park (after buying an emergency socket set) with frostbite but swapped it without any drama and within a mile or two she was at the 12 o'clock position and toasty warm.....so it seems my last two stats on the other trucks must have failed in the closed position (cos they overheated immediately), so happy ending anyway! cheers for the replies! |
