Forecasters Warning

Heavy Rain and Gale/Severe Gale Risk

Areas Affected: Potentially all of Britain and Ireland, but coastal areas currently at highest risk of seeing gales or severe gales develop.

Valid: Late Sunday 07th - Tuesday 09th November 2010

This is an update to the Advance Weather Warning that was issued by Metcheck at 18:16 on Thursday 04th November 2010, this update issued at 19:30 on Friday 05th November 2010.

A deepening Atlantic low is still forecast to sink south-eastwards close to and over Ireland during the second half of Sunday and into Monday bringing a very unsettled spell of weather to many parts.

Confidence is slowly increasing over the track of this system, and is now moderate to high for a spell of very wet and very windy weather to affect western areas during Sunday night and Monday, with rain and potential gales affecting many regions at some stage during the above time period.

Current projections indicate that around an inch (25mm) of rain may fall from this system over central and western Britain. Snow may also fall over the mountains of Scotland.

South/south-westerly winds may gust up to 70mph across some exposed western coastal areas during Sunday night, before backing south-easterly and then easterly across northern and eastern Britain during Monday and remaining strong here with gusts of up to 55mph. Winds will become light and variable over Ireland on Monday as the low tracks southeast across the country. With spring tides expected, this may result in coastal flooding occurring in some locations.

my 4 wheel drive has allready been tested rick , on the caravan site lol ... im not going to scotland they have square sausages up there and fry mars bars fgs , but people on the coast might need a snorkel particularly in wales / ireland

Areas Affected: Potentially all of Britain and Ireland, but central areas currently at highest risk of seeing gales or severe gales develop during the second of Thursday through into Friday.

Valid: Thursday 11th and Friday 12th November 2010

This is an update to the Advance Weather Warning that was first issued by Metcheck at 08:00 on Tuesday 09th November, this update issued at 11:58 on Wednesday 10th November 2010.

Another deep Atlantic low is forecast to affect Britain and Ireland during Thursday and Friday, with another band of wind and rain crossing the country on during Wednesday night and early Thursday, clearing to showers but with gales or severe gales developing across central and northern parts of Britain by Thursday afternoon.

Current projections indicate that 12-25mm of rain may fall from this system and with this falling onto already saturated ground this may cause further concerns with localised flooding.

Along with the band of rain, it will become very windy with south-westerly winds potentially gusting up to 60mph at times. However, the main concern is for Thursday afternoon, evening and night through into early Friday when severe westerly gales across central and northern Britain as well as across Ireland may gust up to 85mph around coasts and 75mph over inland areas of Ireland and northern England, bringing the risk of structural damage as well as fallen trees/branches.

This Advance Weather Warning will be updated this evening as developments become clearer.
