Nissan 2 : Range Rover 0 :-)

So we had snow the other night, a lot out where I live, and the back roads home are hilly. No problem thinks I as I in the new Navara. So it's an Audi in front, me then a neighbour behind in her fancy top of the range low profile shod Range Rover.

Having a bit of experience off roading I know speed can be your friend, so at the crest of each hill I slowed right down to give the audi in front a head start then when the Audi was clear I floored it to go down then back up the other side. Much to the annoyance of the Range Rover behind. She couldn't ork out what I was doing and thought I was just going really slow for no reason, so kept flashing her lights at me.

Just outside our village is a biggy hill, really steep, so I gave the Audi the loads of time to clear by waiting stationary at the top of the one before it. Range Rover lost the plot, started flashing, tooting and waving me on in a very annoyed fashion.

Once the Audi was clear I flew up the hill (bit of sideways action, but hey, that's what snow is for ;-) ) . At the top I looked back and saw her inching her way up the hill. No way is she gonna make it I thought so I waited and watched. Sure enough she got stuck half way up.

I got out, walked back down and explained exactly why I was waiting before each hill and maybe she'd do well to do the same, I had a very smug look on my face of course. I suggested she reverse the car back down and try again this time giving it some welly. All in all she wasn't impressed :-)

The next morning I decided to take the Terrano in to work as the snow was still deep and it has AT tyres on, at the hill the Range Rover was still there, abandoned from the night before, but now with the husband and the woman trying to get it going. I did the decent thing and offered to tow them out, they accepted, she looked very sheepish, the husband was very grateful.

I couldn't help but tell them they really need to get shot of the low profiles and big chrome wheels and get some more suitable tyres, the husband agreed entirely, all she could say was that she liked the look of her wheels/tyres and thought mine looked rubbish.

Upon leaving them at the top of the hill I explained mine might look crap but at least they actually work.

Oh how smug am I?

Well done you Mr Smug, I must say everytime I see one of those Rangies with those tyres I do have those thoughts :wink:

I think most of us would love to be in that kind of situation 8)

as the tyre advert goes "power is nothing without control" and low profile may look nice an bling but no good when going gets tough

theres a road not far from my work notorious for it when it snows, the junction at top always freezes in snow and lot of folk get stuck

anyways as usual everyone trys to get up it (its popular way to avoid all the heavy traffic) and like every year snow comes on a stack of car/ transits stuck near the top, incidently sitting on hill in mav holding it on brakes and some pleb in a audi is right up my arse if i lost grip he woulda had some repair bill... so i'm sittin their when 1 of boys from work (civic type r big alloys) does a 3 pointer ahead of me stops and says no way am i getting up the hill stupid even trying .... 5mins later i'm nice cosy in work (leaving a number of parked cars) an hour later he arives after doing a round trip of about 1.5 miles

just to make it worse as soon as snow started again he clocked out and went home (didnt wanna get stuck on way home)
