I'll put this here as its TROOPER related
Can someone confirm this for me-
Had clutch done on Trooper tody at Mr Clutch. Quoted £362 get a call at 11am saying fly wheel needs changing (£550 just for the PART) they said they can grind it for £60 and see if that works. so said £60 option. 4pm- phone call saying need new master cylinder £220 for part plus labour) they said its been leaking for long time. so went round, 1 "mechanic" said its been leaing for long time (argued that how can it? i've not noticed it) other "mechanic" said its gone where new clutch has been installed and the old seals cant take the new pressure. That Correct? anyway argued with manager about two stories, paid the bill for clutch and took car. found master cylinder for £42 on Milner!!! (£160 cheaper!) and my said if it needs doing when he gets time to look he'll change it |

tricky, but going on what you have said, and the costs of parts you found, i'd say they have acted like a typical rip off garage who have simply tried it on with you. I cant stand them, really i cant. You did the right thing going for the £60 option although you have no proof they actually did it, and the right thing taking it else where to have the master cylinder checked.

shame you can't trust garages. There is a good local garage that I usually use and trust but they couldn't do it for cheaper than £550. shame.

thats how it goes so often with your trusty garages. the thing that bothers me though, is that these garages are NOT short of work, they just arent, yet they act like the credit crunch has hit them worse than anyone. The best thing you can do is simply get second opinions unless you are sure yourself that any quotes for work etc are honest, and reasonably priced. Usually if i get calls like that, I say hold off while I check the prices and see what happens.
