Default Diesel or Petrol

I will be looking for another Terrano in the very near future, just want opinions from those that know... I was wanting a Diesel, but what is the Petrol version like...economy..peformance?

engines seem to be more reliable in my opinion

got one of each,but it has to be the oil burner for fuel economy and off road tourque and power.
like the petrol engine on the road as its a lot quicker but its a bit on the thirsty side.

diesel,
I'm getting better than 38 mpg on long journeys........ as for off road, don't do much of that these days but in the snow, car performed very very well, heater a little less so but given the notariety.......... not bad at all, heated seats keep backside warm at any rate
For the record, I have 235 70 16's fitted, pirelli scorpions on the rear, goodyear on the front, both sets all terrain.... my speedo's out but what the hell.... overreading is a good thing

I'm amazed you get 38 to the gallon I can only dream of such figures, but then I have er changed mine a little
I'll be getting around 25-28 mpg, but do run it on bio at 56p a litre Speedo defo under reads with 305/70/16s on
Petrol one needs a good gas job then it'll be cheap to run

We get about the same mpg, it's alot better with the intercooler then the first one we had.
