Default Going to Italy

Going to Italy this year for summer holidays but have a dilemma.

1) company car focus zetec 1.8 diesel all expenses paid apart from diesel
2) ford maverick all expenses paid from own pocket

If you were going to Italy for three weeks which one one would you choose???

Staying in a eurocamp tent so only carrying clothes for three weeks, people going, two adults, one hormonal teenager and two children under 7

For me I would take the T2 due to comfort & have you seen how they drive over therewith the T2 being that much bigger they might not cut you up so badly

Is there any contest??

Focus cheaper on fuel all expenses paid including breakdown cover I hope.

Mav Wear and tear. Expensive on fuel, Breakdown insurance parts and labour.

Mav I reakon would cost you around an extra £200 (fuel,Breakdown ins)

TAKE THE MAV!

Get your wheels properly balanced if you've any shake and you should be able to cruise happily at 80mph plus. Fuel should be around 25-28 mpg even at that speed, because the engine isn't doing a lot of work...but critically, with five passengers and three weeks clothes, not to mention all the associated cr*p that you will end up with (coats, bags, DVDs, playstations, gameboys etc etc etc) it will be really cramped in that Focus.

As to reliability, if you read these forums carefully, you'll find that there isn't a great history of expensive things going wrong without some pre-warning at least, and since you can get them fixed at either Ford or Nissan dealers there are plenty of places, even the little things shouldn't be that disastrous....just get a decent service done before you go.

So at the end of the day, it comes down to comparing fuel costs versus the extra space and comfort (bear in mind it will be nearly all autoroute) and the ability to go places other people can't when you get to the other end!

I used to take four kids down to the South of France for two weeks (she's done dozens of 2000 mile round trips and never missed a beat) and STILL had to put a roofbox on the Terrano so don't underestimate the baggage hold requirements will you! Have a great holiday though whatever you do.

Afterthoughts; highly unlikely your company car will be covered for continental breakdown....Green Flag is not that expensive for your Mav? Also, having done the same, its great not to have to worry about keeping the company skate in good order in a country where they drive like idiots! With that in mind, which car would you prefer to be driving in an accident?!

hi, one question why do you have the mav, I know we have it for the fun of it,
the lifestyle, to greenlane and to tow what ever 'van within reason we want to.

whats a bit fuel versus the memories of the adventure, the writeup (here).
failing that point out to boss that can save some wear and tear on the company
car but likely they wont care cos likely its just on lease.....

and like someone else said, sorry so many posts, not worrying about someone elses
property, oh and one more waving to all those r20 drivers there and back, c'mon
fly the 4x4 flag, your hobby needs you!
