nats help needed please
hi and thanks for letting me part of this forum, im hoping someone can help me, ive recently bought a 2004 Nissan patrol 3.o td, lovely drive and I feel like king of the road in it, or should I say I did, until I attempted to replace the stereo with an after market one as the original didn't work, it turned on but no sound, annoying so me and a friend went ahead and took on the task of replacing it with an after market stereo, now, new stereo all wired in and working, but no start. notice a solid red light on the dash and after a bit of googling found that the original stereo has nats built into it or something, im in desperate need of help as its now off the road which also means im out of work, local stealers are not interested in helping and I also fear taking it to them will render me bankrupt, any help or suggestions will be gratefully received. thankyou

We have been trying to diagnose another suspected NATS2 issue on another new members truck recently however he has a 2.7TDi Terrano rather than 3.0Di Patrol but to be honest the NATS element can't be too dissimilar. Hopefully some of the Patrol members will be here in a while with some tips for you to try. I certainly know that other Terrano owners that have the 1.5 DIN head-unit with the hazard switch built in that have tried to replace for a single DIN unit with a separate hazard switch have also induced these symptoms too. Good luck

Hi swr123 and welcome, your best bet and the cheapest is to call out a car locksmith, after repeated start attempts you will be locked out on NATS, make sure you explain all that you have done, but basically he will hook up a computer and reprogram your keys etc, I had similar some time ago when I inadvertently used a non chipped key, 3 strikes and you are out, took the guy 20 mins to sort it and charged £60 which I thought was good as he had over an hours round trip to me, Rick

i don't know if it makes any difference but the remote locking is still working okay, but the idea of an auto locksmith is definatly an avenue worth looking into, thankyou for your reply. adam

Have to say on my 3 litre Terrano i replaced factory stereo that had the hazard switch with a aftermarket head unit and had no issues with lockout.
Has battery been disconnected or been flat? There’s a thread as mentioned by a new member literally just a few days ago with a terrano with similar symptoms as you and after a few posts he explains how he fixed it. The remote locking system is totally different module so that will still work. |

Hi Patrick, I see you are in the US so am unable to help, but unless things are different in the states, any car locksmith that can program chipped keys should be able to sort you out, Rick

NATS problem Patrol
I have just bought the said 3.0 patrol and had an hour messing with it today,
I re installed the original radio which when turned on said WAIT then after a minute said SECURE but the nats light was still solid and no starting. I shall keep you posted to any improvements. Let the challenge begin. |

It Lives............
The Patrol is alive!!!!!!!
info as to what has transpired to achieve such a momentous feat. I started collecting as much info as possible regarding the NATS on the Patrol as i was 90% sure that was the issue. The only way to get into the immobilizer program was using a Nissan Consult diagnostic program along with a Nissan interface plus the security card to unlock the NATS. I bought a Toughbook as it takes the card £230 very good second hand. I bought the interface $500 from malaysia, tried to get the card but no stock Fortunately i found a guy who had posted a program that i wrote into the Consult program and it unlocks the NATS. sweet so plugged it all in and tried to rewrite the immobilizer, all seemed well but still no starting or radio. Then back to the internet i stumbled on this guy.ECU Decode who completely takes off the NATS from the ecu and put on a straight through live start £160+vat. Plugged it in and started straight away. Chuffed to bits. |
