Default Am I Expecting Too Much

I’m not too sure if I’m expecting too much or am I just moaning for the sake of it, what do you guys think.

My wife bought me a Coffee Maker for Christmas, unpacked it amd set it up yesterday. I won’t mention brand as that could lead to all kinds of problems. Anyway read the instructions and they said remove all the moveable parts and wash with warm soapy water and then run it through a coffee making cycle with plain water and no coffee.
No problem followed the instructions to the letter but decided I would run water through a couple of times. After second cycle there was still a plastic smell and the water was tainted with a plastic taste.
So ran water through a total of 6 times yesterday and same taint. Looked on the internet and found reviews and low and behold bingo loads of poor reviews complaining of the plastic taint.
So this morning after all the machine had dried out I washed all the removable parts and again ran plain water through but still the same taint and smell, the whole machine smells of this plastic smell. It’s not a burning smell it’s a new plastic electrical appliance smell that I’ve smelled before from new appliances like TVs and things.
So my wife has contacted the manufacturer who is a well known brand not a budget type brand. They have advised her to run the descale programme and use white vinegar through both the cleaning programme and also a coffee making cycle as before without the coffee and then run plain water through a cycle.
Now am I expecting too much of a appliance that I should have to go through all that malarkey of deep cleaning and using vinegar when it is brand new straight out of the box. Totally get wash and run a plain water cycle through a couple times but having to deep clean and use vinegar.

So am I a Victor Meldrew or is the manufacturer taking the weewee?

Thumbs down If you have the packaging - return it as not fit for purpose.

I empathise with your problem it should not need to have such cleaning cycles when it is brand new.

White Vinegar might just change the smell from coffee to vinegar.

I suspect it is the solvents / plasticisers causing the smell, a well made product should not do this in my opinion.

That said your first Coffee might replace the plastic pong with a Coffee aroma.

Not even tried coffee in it.

To be honest given my current health circumstances I don’t want me or my family ingesting what basically must be some kind of gases or vapours from plastic.

My opinion is that it isn’t fit for purpose as your title suggests and yes only unpacked yesterday so packaging is close at hand.

I had one for Xmas too and got the same funny smell from mine when I ran the cleaning cycle a few times, I just put it down to new plastic getting a bit warm

It's gone now though, mines a Russel Hobbs

I just use Instant Coffee at present I drink Kenco Millicano Americano Original - good price at CostCo. I get bored & change every two years or so. I previously drank Nescafe Alta Rica, before that Blend 37 etc etc.

We have a Coffee Machine in our loft that was a leaving present when Wendy left a previous job but as I am the only Coffee drinker found the cleaning just too much bother.

And finally I drink it out of a Stainless Steel Cup or Mug only, for me the texture of a metal container adds something. I also only drink wine out of a Pewter Goblet - not glass generally.

A bit said really eh ?

Now the manufacturer has advised my wife to use a product called oust to clean it with. Needless to say reluctantly it’s now boxed up ready to go back to the shop tomorrow.
