Unless he is using Nissan consult then most generic code readers will give a false code.
There is a download on here that shows you how to read the fault codes for free and gives you the true code.

I would start with the basics first.
A good service and change all fluids and filters.
I had issues with my injector pump on my old 2.7 TDI and I'm going to agree with Rick that unless you are a specialist then leave the.pump alone.
My money would be on the no 1 injector but a proper diagnosis and code would shed some light on that.

Mechanic has good reader updates monthly.
But on this subject I am thinking of purchasing a code reader for myself and ideas which one and where to buy bearing in mind my vehicle is 2003 and I think the type you need changed 2002? Also on my 2.7 where do you plug them in I couldn’t find socket anywhere?
PS where on site can I find the fault code download mentioned above, tried but still struggling to find my way around site john. Think I have sorted bosh pump for my 2.7 from buycarpartsco.uk for £32 pounds. No kidding I will let everyone know if genuine pump it seems ok but seems too cheap! Paid with PayPal with good return service fingers crossed, if I had got it last night would of got it for £29 but had to go to garage to make sure pump was a bosh.
